A Pet's Ten Commandments.........

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters~
Now please pass this on to other pet owners. We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs!

Ditto. That was beautiful. I love my pets. We don't have kids - our pets ARE our kids. Maybe some people will understand that and others won't, but I'm glad at least one other person here does.

Every time I think about getting a dog, I remember how terrible it was when our second Bassett had to be put to sleep. To this day I can't think of anyone's passing that hurt more than this dog's passing did. Knowing that would be a best-case scenario and a guarantee within 12-15 yrs., I don't know that I could do it again. Kids tend to live longer than pets. But I sure love dogs more than I love kids.

my cat has different rules

1 you feed me
2 you pet me when i want to , not when you want to
3 i kill things and bring em home, that's what i do, you dispose of the bodies
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214657107.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214657323.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214657399.jpg

4 sometimes i half kill things and bring em home, then you dispose of the bodies, dead or alive, figure it out
5 when you eat, give me some, i don't care that you took care of #1 allready, give. me. some.
6 the vet is evil... take me there again and i will mess you up
7 you wake up when i tell you to, or i mess you up
8 when i sleep, you don't bug me, touch me or make noise, else... you get it, me messing you up
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214656979.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214656998.jpg

9 i own the couch, your bed, the freshly dried laundry, the house, the garden.

Did not see anything on the list about peeing in shoes??!!

My ex-wife had a boyfriend who was not nice to her cats. Threw them against the wall when he got mad.

The cats ended up peeing in his shoes and he got the message, as did she. After I stayed the night a few times and the cats ended up liking me guess I was dead meat from there on. We married 18 months afterwards!

I'm here, your here, why am I'm not eating?

There are so many animals out there that want nothing more than to love and be loved in return. It hurts so much when they leave us (one of the downsides of having a longer life expectancy than them I guess) but what keeps me going is the knowledge that I've made the world a better place by giving a great life to at least a few of them in our time here. We all have to share it, ultimately.

Pets make our lives richer, fuller and (for me at least) bring balance and happiness to it. I'm one of those types who has a VERY hard time liking, getting along with or trusting people easily. Usually I expect them to be shallow, phony, manipulative, inconsiderate or what I call "SOS" (Stuck On 'Stupid'). Either that or they're just looking for some way to screw me over. Some folks (the rare ones) prove me wrong and ultimately gain my acceptance. Most don't and just reinforce my "default" belief that people typically just suck and are something best left avoided. OTOH, pets are never selfish or inconsiderate - they only want attention and love and to play and be happy - and to bring the same to us (well, occasionally they obsess about food too. . .) :) They're always honest and true to what they are. Point is they bring me a lot of happiness and give me a certain amount of balance in my life.

It's too easy to become grouchy/negative when surrounded by a-hole people all day. Animals go a long way to offsetting that. They're all awesome and give such happiness to my life. I'd probably have gone crazy or turned into a total antisocial grouch a long time ago (worse than I probably am already) if not for them. . . They literally keep me going some days.

Here's Charlie (my much beloved cat who passed away from cardiomyopathy back in January), and his surviving companion Bonnie. Linus & Lucy (the two black & white ones) came later.

Pet lovers united...loved Stijn's cat rules. Love 'em while you can....losing a pet IS losing a member of the family.

Here's a picture of my little one. I took her as a rescue from a bad owner. She was a nervous wreck when I got her. She's my avatar because she goes with me everywhere in my 911. She likes to sleep on the passenger seat, and I have a water bowl for her in the back. She sits on my lap and leans against me and looks up at me like this  and then she does this :p

About a year ago my cat Chalkie died at the age of 21 and a half. I loved that cat.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214782465.jpg

But I noticed recently a wild cat living under the house next door. He looked pretty rough so I started feeding him. Now he sleeps on the end of my bed and goes by the name of Toby.

Good story, Bill. Right now, one of our cats isn't doing so good. We're taking her to the Vet on Tuesday. Earliest we could get an appointment. Yes, we're in a funk...

Bill Douglas 06-29-2008 06:15 PM

Good luck.

Thanks...she came to us about 12 years ago, when neighbors moved and left her behind. They took the dog. These days, I feel sorry for the dog.
