Fish tacos - I thought they'd be nasty tasting but they're great!
I tried them for the first time ever today at Rubio's for lunch. Man, what a pleasant surprise. You're probably thinking that I need to get out more often but I'm first to admit I'm a creature of habit.
I have had a turkey sammich for lunch almost every day for as long as I can remember. Now I have a new fave. Probably going to eat fish tacos almost every day until I try something new again. No point to this thread except to try something new once in a while. You might end up liking it. And I'm talking about food here, fellas. Nothing else. |

Spiced broiled fish, raw cabbage, soft corn tortilla is how they have always been served to me. Had that for the first time in Tijuana about 25 years ago

Taco Surf!
Seal Beach, LB, Dana Point, and prob other places. Baja style, lightly fried w/corn tortilla and cabbage. Very good. Get the three taco a la carte with a pitcher of Dos Equis dark. Living in SoCal does have some benefits.

I tried fish tacos during a trip to Cali once. Yum!!! I love FT. It's hard to get a good FT here in Houston.

Same here, small dive by the beach just across from the border. Yummy with a cold corona or tecate!

Chuy's on Westheimer maybe? They had decent fish tacos in Tucson, but I don't know if they have the same menu here.

My wife and I rented a boat in Mexico with a guide one year--we caught a yellowtail and the dude drove to a restaurant on a little island and they served fish tacos with the fish we caught--(so they told us). Don't really remember them cuz the fermented cactus swill they gave us was KILLER.

broiled is better than breaded and fried, but they're both good. Chuy's is pretty good, there is one about a mile from me.

They are super easy to make at home.
- Broil/bake white fish with some butter - Corn tortilla warmed - Cabbage, cilantro, salsa, avocado, and tomato - Squeeze some fresh lime juice over and pig out One of the key ingredients is the salsa. In San Diego there's a place called Fins that hands down has the best salsa in town. They make it from scratch weekly. Try the Dos Pescados and load up on the salsa. Makes Rubios and the like look sad...IMO Last edited by dmoolenaar; 07-17-2008 at 10:04 AM.. |
