American River Complex (Tahoe National Forest): 9,024 acres at 20 percent contained. This complex of two fires is 11 miles northeast of Foresthill. Power lines, watershed, and residences remain threatened. Area closures are in effect near the fire.

Basin Complex (Los Padres National Forest): 80,186 acres at 18 percent contained. This complex is five miles southeast of Big Sur. Big Sur remains threatened and evacuations are in place. Highway 1 is closed.

Gap (Los Padres National Forest): 9,600 acres at 35 percent contained. This fire is located six miles northwest of Santa Barbara. Communities, cultural and historical resources, and power lines are threatened. Evacuations are in order.

BTU Lightning Complex (Butte Unit, Cal Fire): 30,000 acres at 55 percent contained. This complex of 14 fires is 27 miles north of Yuba City. Power lines, residences, and structures are threatened. Highway 70 is closed.

Canyon Complex (Plumas National Forest): 18,451 acres at 64 percent contained. This complex of seven fires is 16 miles northeast of Paradise. Residences and archeological sites are threatened. Highway 70 is closed.

I'd have to respectfully disagree with you Tabs. With the one exception of the Gap Fire, the areas that are burning are God's country. These are remote areas that are normally very beautiful, very scenic, and the people who live there are salt of the Earth, down home folks.

yeah well if you think California is all full of liberals, then stop by Central California's San Joaquin Valley. We still have a lot of people in the agriculture, manufacturing, and construction industries who tend to value conservative ideals. Take a listen to mighty KMJ 580 AM some time too.

I used to live in Irvine during my college years. I can say they are as right wing as it gets. Why do you think the airport was named after John Wayne? I doubt there is a more conservative voting population that is that large and that active anywhere else in the entire country. Write to Sean Hannity, and he will let you know how conservative central Calif. is, and central Orange County (we are talking Irvine, Newport Beach, Laguna Nigel, etc not Santa Ana or Westminster).
