Anybody Here Into Guns?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! :D:D:D
No, seriously, I know that 3 or 4 of you here are and I'm seeking your advice. I've had rifles, no hand guns. I want a hand gun, mostly to keep in the house for self defense (and blowing away terrorists, should the opportunity arise ). Glock 22 a good choice? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1214959106.jpg |
22?? I wouldnt go smaller than a .40
I have a H&K USP 40 and a Smith & Wesson M&P .40 Love both of them |
I get the chills just looking at that picture.
I am such a wimp. |

Vinny, What do you think about the MK23? |
G22 is a standard cop piece in many parts. Solid pistol that you can abuse and it wont die.
If you are thinking about plinking, .40 isnt 'cheap' like it used to be. I know you .45 guys dont want to hear it, but a G17 ( or any 9mm) with the proper round has plenty of 'stopping power' and 9mm is cheaper to plink than .40 or .45. |

You need to get a gun that fits your hand and that you like the way it shoots. Both of my Glocks are 9mm (17 & 26). It's cheaper to shoot than .40, .45, or .357--and I shoot them a lot. My take is that I'd rather have something that I can afford to shoot ALOT and be very, very comfortable with than something with slightly greater stopping power that I don't shoot as often. |

My local range will rent anything in their inventory for $5 for an hour. Most ranges that have attached shops will do the same. |

Need to know more about "slightly greater stopping power". If I have to use what I end up buying for my expressed purpose I'll want my aim to be good and really won't want to have to fire it twice. :) |
I own a Sig Sauer 226R in .40. Finest pistol I own. Extremely accurate and reliable.

For home defense, you're better off with something bigger. With a .45 you don't have to worry about over penetration and it has a very good one shot/stop rate. My bedside defenses are a SIG P220 (.45) and a Mossberg Mariner (12 ga.). For the car I usually have a SIG P239 in .40. In cold weather I often carry a SIG P229 or Pro 2340, both in .357SIG to make sure it can penetrate the bad guy's layered clothing. Can't go wrong with a Glock, but be sure to shoot one first. I can shoot my SIG's like a pro, but could never make a Glock shoot straight.

Most people will run at the sight of a gun. Of those that won't most will run when shot (even with a .22). What you have left are psychos strung out on meth (or some other powerful drug). It's in that last case that "stopping power" only really matters because that's the guy you have to put down in one shot. In my area, I don't think it's likely that I'll encounter that guy and if I do I'm comfortable putting two shots in him (double-tap). |
I cant agree with Chris more, You have to find the gun that fits you and feels right to you. I thought my H&K was the ultimate. Always shot great with it.
Until I picked up the S &W. I shoot way better with it. Feels like an extension of my arm. |
for home defense, i think a shotgun works best. ...just aim in the general vicinity.

At 15 yards, the spread through an open choke is 4 in. you would need to aim if you want to hit anything. |
