I smell like a fish. I cleaned my 10 gallon tank, bought some sand, Transferred about 5 gallons of water from the existing tank and added about 5 more gallons. Not much in the little tank as far as 'scenery', but I was able to put two small fake tree thingies in for now. I think I was able to get about 5 of the little ones out, but they are now hiding in the new tank. I see three small ones that I missed in the big tank. Enough fir tonight, the fish are freaked right now.

Save the Fry!
How about some pics? |
I thought about it, but at the moment, all you'd see is an empty tank. The little ones are in hiding. I'll see what I can do during the day. They're going to have to come out and eat sooner or later.
I also have to get a few more permanent "structures" in the tank. $50 bucks and counting so far. |
Back in my days of fish tanks, I had Ciclids having baby's. They sell a small breeding tank that sits at the top of your tank (in the water) but it has little brackets that go across the top of your tank to hold it in place. You scoop up the baby's and put them in this small tank which is protected from the parents (easier said than done).
I found that my baby fish would last in the big tank for a couple of weeks and the mother would protect them. But, when my Texas Cidlids had babys, the mother actually changed color. During this time, she protected the babys. As soon as her color returned to normal, she started eating the babys - just like the dad. After a few rounds of this, I got the small breeding tank - it worked. The small tank is cheap. |
+1 on the hanging breeding tank. I used to have cichlids in a 35 gallon tank, and when they had babies, I put them in there. Worked quite well, and very cheap.

I thought about the little net, but figured it would cool to see them in a small tank. It was at the store, where I realized I had just thrown out the hanging pump for the small tank. Oh well. The little ones are not dead, so that's a good sign. They are even coming out of their hiding spots to eat. There's a little too much current in the water from the new pump, so I am trying to think on how to put some rocks in there to break it up.

Alright, here's a pic of the small tank. I caught another fry today, so I think there are 5 in the small tank, with at least one more in the big tank.
It's not much, but with the added rocks, it breaks up the current created by the filter. They seem to have come out of hiding and are now swimming about the tank and at least two of the smaller fry are fighting over territory. These guys are the size of a grain of white rice at the moment. The largest (it shows up in the pic), is about twice that size. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1215134817.jpg Oh yeah, looks like one of the females in the large tank is brooding again. |
