Paris and the Tour de France

A buddy of mine is headed over there for the last day of the race. The final stage of the tour takes place on the Champs Elysees in Paris and the crowds are bound to be huge. Since I ride he thought he'd ask me about any spectator info or any good viewing on the Champs Elysees (?? like I'd know??).

So I'm throwing it out to the collective wisdom of the PPOT. Anyone...?

I usually watched it from out in the countryside, not in Paris. Much more fun and you get to see the riders up close.

The crowds are huge along the Champs Elysees. Get set up early (day or two before) and be prepared to wait. Much better viewing in the country side as per Joeska. There are hotels that overlook this portion of the Champs Elysees, but you need to book 1 or 2 years in advance. All the same enjoy!

Wish I could be there to see some of it live, but I can't. Soes anyone know what channels will broadcast Le Tour in The States? Or maybe if there is a way to see it via a European sports channel, either on television or the internet?

You can watch it on VS (http://www.versus.com/). I get it as part of my standard Comcast package.

Can't. Wait.

Sweet! That and bull riding!

What's "standard Comcast?" Is that internet or TV-related?

The crowds are part of the fun !

Try to be somewhere "up" the Champs, very cool to watch them climb and then descend.
Also try to get to the Hotel de Ville for the awards.

I saw Hinault win his last. And Lemond and Pedro Delgado win.

Its the basic TV package. VS has pretty good coverage of the Tour, but the rest of their content is kinda weak.
