Bicycle Rack

Anybody have any recommendations for an inexpensive bike rack I can attach to my Volvo Wagon. I need one that can hold at least three bikes and attaches to the rear tailgate. Just looking for something I can use to haul the bikes down to the beach. Last weekend I had to remove both wheels from my bike and stack the three bikes(arg) on top of each other in the rear of the car. Pain in the ass. Thanks

I have a Thule that I got at REI. Very good quality but I don't know that it would necessarily count as "cheap".

I know it's a pain to pile them in the back but if you get some big heavy blankets (those padded things that furniture movers use would be great if you can find some) that'd help a lot and be a lot cheaper - you could probably stack the bikes in the back without too much worry about damage.

Do you have a tow hitch? I have a 2 bike rack that fits in the receiver. They also make 4 bike racks. They are made by Lund and the 2 bike version is about $120. You should be able to do a search.

x2 on the hitch solution. Several options, some move out of the way so you can still use the hatch when the bikes are loaded.

I prefer a roof rack, tons of options when/if you want to haul other stuff. Used racks are cheap on ebay/CL.

X3 on the hitch, I have one for the Burb, gat a tilting one so you can get into the wagon. I have this one for the 911http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1215614139.jpg

I am a Yakima person - you buy the stuff once. Then as you trade in/sell/buy/lease different cars, truck, SUVs you just change adapters. You can sell the old adapters to someone else.

They last forever, and you can hand them down to kids or g-kids when you are too young to ride or you die.

I don't have a hitch or a roofrack so I'm looking for something that straps to the rear hatch. The one in the video is very cool. If I still had my SUV that would be perfect.

Your options are limited then. Try Amazon.com. The hitch racks are very convenient though...

Go to Yakima.com and ask for a 3 bicycle rack for a glass hatch off a 2000 Volvo XC70. That's what I did when I was outfitting my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Here's one for sale on craigslist - Upland for $85. It's a Yakima 3 bike rack Mighty Joe - very good and solid fit. This is what I have.
