A very nice Bug.

Here is a very nice pic of a Vdub Bug that I spotted at the SantaPod Retro show here in good old rainy England...SantaPod is our drag raceway in Northhamptonshire. The Beetle in the pic was built in the states according to sources on ImpactBumpers Uk.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1215624988.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1215625010.jpg

The car was bloody fab.....spotless is the word,on top and underneath.

I know it's not a 911 but without these the 911 would never have been born....I think!

The gateway drug... I still own and thoroughly enjoy a '70 standard and a '71 Super Beetle. Mine are dead stock and not nearly so well kept (daily drivers both). Fabulous cars. Especially that one.

PCA7GGR 07-09-2008 10:05 AM

About 20 years ago, I took my son to the drag strip on the Hawaiian island of Maui. A Vdub spanked a 5.0 Mustang. Surprised a lot of folks., including the Mustang driver.

Macroni 07-09-2008 10:07 AM

I am looking for a Vdub for a daily driver. Clean stock w/ sunroof.

jinxy666 07-09-2008 10:15 AM

I am pleased it has warmed your hearts. I did not see the car run but you did not need to, the look of it was enough. Question.....what and how do the degree markings work on the crank pully..I have never seen this on bugs before.

What a car.
jinxy:)

HelmetHead 07-09-2008 11:01 AM

The degree markings on the crank pulley are designed to advance/retard the timing from TDC....
I very much miss my restored 1960 sunroof bug!!

Thanks for sharing the pics!

ZAMIRZ 07-09-2008 11:04 AM

Damn, I love that color. Nice to see krinkle black in the engine compartment, rather than the typical chrome/polished everything.

jinxy666 07-09-2008 12:30 PM

Nice coupe Amir and also a very well composed pic of your SC. I wish the weather in GB was as kind to my SC driving.....Oh well can't have it all I guess.;)

My 1960 sunroof bug (circa 1988) cheap ass re-chromed bumper rusted a month after installation!

Here is my daughter's '68.
My dad and I built it in 1991 and he had fun with it until a heart attack slowed him down. He gave it to her because she was born the year we built it and always loved it.

My buddy Richard's bug, some may remember it from the cover of Hot VWs a few years ago:cool:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1215646817.jpg

Thanks for the great pictures!

I'll add a few of mine I dug up from the basement. Boy did I document some odd stuff, most of which I hope never gets posted anywhere ... ;)

These should provide a nice antithesis to the gorgeous ones. All in all, it's the only car I've owned in the same fun-league as the 911. It might even be more fun, though just seeing pictures makes me want to buy a 40oz of Mickey's and a pack of Drum roll-your-own cigarettes ...

As 'purchased' but painted blue

An intermediate color scheme

Entered in a classic car show just to be annoying (youth and Mickey's 40oz will do these things)

I keep trying to tell my 14 year old that he should think about a bug as a first car but he's not seeing the sense in it yet. I'm going to keep trying to make him see sense in it.

Me too, and I think they usually 'get it' too.
I took my '87 911 to our local July 4th car show and I was talking to a guy who was showing a gorgeous Westfalia camper that must have been close to mint. I'm kicking myself for leaving the camera on the dining room table!

Super_Dave_D 07-09-2008 06:16 PM

OK so what year is it? 57? 58?

Super_Dave_D 07-09-2008 06:24 PM

not a 58

jinxy666 07-09-2008 09:14 PM

It is really great to see all the pics of the Beetle. I hope to own one one day when I have more time

VW (meaning air cooled) drivers are pretty much the only ones who wave back at me 100% of the time. pretty much 100% of the Detroit Iron folks just sneer ... odd, since that is the behoviour they ascribe to Porsche drivers, and Porsche drivers wave back at least 50% of the time - even when I was driving a Firebird ... oh well. If I like seeing it on the road, I wave at it, and if they want to sneer, who cares.

Bugs Rock!

bugs were fun with close ratio gears and 200+ hp, shifting at 7400 rpm the pushrod motors were pistols.
Same car 10 years later.

guy I knew in HS was the son of a guy with a VW speed shop. Had an imron yellow bug, early '60s. That thing would flat eat up anything but a bike in a straight line. Very pretty car, could lift the front wheels for a long way, had little wheelie bars he could bolt on

been thinking when it comes time to replace my daily I wouldn't mind a bug - I know a little about them but not much

what kind of mileage do they get? If a short answer can be had what years are consider the best

Gotta be honest, I don't think I would want to commute in one. Pretty crude machines. On the upside, they are quite reliable. I have been amazed by my mine.
