Gm oil chages recommended at 10,000 mile intervals

Just heard this from a guy who is in the oil business. He says Gm is planning on changing their recommended oil change intervals to 10,000 miles.... Wonder if other manufacturers will follow suit.... anyone else hear of this.....

BMW and others have had ~15K intervals for over a decade. I change the oil in my wife's BMW at 7-8K. Synthetic oil of course. Not sure I would feel good about running dino oil for more than 5K.

BMW's recommended intervals only got to 15K miles when they started offering the maint. warranties. Before they did that, the gospel was that you couldn't change your oil too often. Once they started paying for it, 15k miles became ok. I change it every 5k. And I suspect the previous owner went by BMW's recommendations. Problem is that you can go 15k miles just fine for a few years. Once you start having problems, your warranty will be long expired, so it's no longer their problem.

Think about it. Over time oils have improved and so have engines. It makes sense that intervals will increase.

I realize oil technology has greatly improved. But I still sleep better at night know my vehicles have fresh blood in them. I can't stand seeing the filthy oil coming out of my cars and then to think it could have stayed in there longer.
