What have you done to support our men and women in the Armed Forces?
As we all know, these are very tough times for our men and women in uniform and their families. The sacrafices these people make are the ultimate of any that a person could give. Missing the birth of their children, having a loved one pass while deployed, not being there to hug your daughter when she comes home from school, and yes even the loss of life.
What have you really done to show appreciation? Help their moral? Whatever? And I mean far beyond posting a link to a tribute site or calling someone a neocon. I'm looking for substance here. I have some stuff to post and will do so when I see where this thread goes. So go ahead, spill it. Last edited by Red Baron; 07-08-2008 at 03:44 PM.. |

Not exactly what I was looking for however it's a start. Porn is quite popular to the guys in uniform and I can remember a few sicko's that would have that chit playing around the clock in the barracks.

I bought a homeless vet a Subway sandwich last week. He seems nice. I ran into him again over the weekend. The poor guy is missing part of a leg. He looks to be in his late 30's.

Any time I see service men or women in uniform I make it a point to tell them how much what they do is appreciated. A beer or a cup of coffee doesn't hurt either.

Other than paying taxes, not enough...just little things. For example, last time I was in the Cue Ball, I introduced a bunch of today's army guys, some of whom were destined for Iraq, to Sgt. Donald Malarkey of Easy Company...he gave them autographed copies of his book. I went to the hall counter, told John that their table time was on me. Alas, he told me that Jim (owner of the hall) had already taken care of it....

That's funny chit right there, I don't care who you are.
![]() One thing I've been involved in is welcoming troops home that have been deployed. I live near Columbus/Ft. Benning, Ga. which (if you don't already know) is where every Infantryman in the ARMY goes to Basic Training. It is also the proud home of our U.S. Army Rangers. Pretty much the place is chock full of Badasses! Anyway, my neighborhood has a few military families living in it. When someone is returning after a deployment, there are a group of us that have been decorating the entire neighborhood with signage "WELCOME HOME AMERICAN HERO" "Thanks" and such. We also place small American Flags at each mailbox and tie huge red/white/blue ribbons to them. We all pitch in and purchase gift certificates to a couple of top notch restaraunts in the area and also fill their fridge with their favorite foods and beverages. It really makes these folks feel good and you can tell the attention is at times a little overwhelming. When these guys ship out we throw a going away bash and make sure they know their dependants can look to us for help while they are deployed. It's the least we can do for these people and you can tell it is really appreciated by them. |

semi-regular care packages: razors, deodorant, toothpaste, $2 scratch ticket, Car & Driver, candy for the kids, sometimes a doll/stuffed animal. those have gone over extremely well.

I vote against the republican administration that got them in this mess and I will vote for the democratic administration that will get them out.
Unfortunately it is too late for the guys already there, but future soldiers wont have to be wounded, killed or witness atrocities relatively soon. |

I do feel bad for them, that they got suckered into this invasion, but I think it is better to make sure they don't go to war. Some people think it is better to send them to war and then buy them cookies when they come home. Suit yourself. Last edited by dipso; 07-08-2008 at 05:17 PM.. |
