Redd Foxx - "It's the BIG one 'Lizabeth!"

This is what I love about estate auctions ...you NEVER know what you will find in the mix. Here in 'small-town' Missouri, I went (yesterday) to an auction and found this.

It's one side (I assume) of the display from the Las Vegas show that Redd Fox (a fellow Missourian born in 1922) had while playing the Hacienda.

It's clear Plexiglas, about 4' wide by 6' long. The lettering is reverse-painted on the inside of the glass to protect from the elements. (Hmmmm, does Vegas even have elements?) Some of the lettering/paint is coming off but about 95 percent remains.

Anyway, a great piece of Vegas/black comedian history and now, already mounted on my garage wall.

NOTE: Can anyone point me to a web site that would have pictures of Vegas in the 1970-80's? where I might possibly be able to find this sign in place in front of the Hacienda?

Some info. I looked up:

His real name was John Elroy Sanford.

Foxx earned the nickname (Redd) due to his reddish hair and complexion. His second stage name was taken from baseball player Jimmie Foxx.

The character of Fred Sanford (from his 'Sanford and Son' TV show) was named after Foxx's own brother, Fred, who had died.

He was one of the first black comics to play to white audiences on the Las Vegas Strip.

I certainly would like to find a photo of this sign in place from back when ...Tabs? Anyone?
