I thought the New Yorker was a really, really liberal rag. I'm surprised. I think it's in poor form, and I don't even like the guy.

I'm not an Obama fan, but that goes way too far.
I really find it hard to believe that any mainstream periodical would have such a cartoon in its pages, yet alone use it for their cover. The date says the 21st of July, I doubt that will be the cover printed for that issue.

It is probably a left-leaning publication, I think that it's a satirical comment on the dumb **** on Fox-jazeera who called their fist-bump a "terrorist jab", or something. This when every white frat-boy in the USA is greeting his friends with it.
![]() It obviously goes over some people's heads, but it won't hurt him one bit. It will be explained and analysed to death on cable news and blogs, once again making Americans look like total dip-*****s to the rest of the world. |

Obama Campaign Calls New Yorker Magazine Cover “Tasteless and Offensive”
by Bonney Kapp Barack Obama had no response to the cover of the July 21st issue of The New Yorker Magazine, seen below, except to shrug incredulously and tell reporters, “I have no response to that.” The cartoon features Barack and Michelle Obama celebrating with a fist bump in the Oval Office in front of a portrait of Osama bin Laden and an American flag burning in the fireplace. Mrs. Obama is portrayed as a militant radical, while Obama appears foreign. The image reflects, some might say mocks, the rumors that have plagued the couple over the last 18 months. While the candidate declined comment, his campaign did not. “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama’s right wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree,” spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement. The magazine features a lengthy article on “how Chicago shaped Obama.”

Interesting...
so the New Yorker is setting up the issues in a way that people will dismiss them outright. (with outrage, for good measure) They must be expecting a legitimate story(putting into question Barry O's, or MO's allegiances ) coming soon.. just a guess... ![]()

I agree with Denis - the cover is making fun of the caricature of Obama created by the right and especially far right.

U Boyz don't get it do U? I don't care what the NYer say about it being a right wing caricature it still is painting Obama in the pejorative. When you listen to the news media on Obama forget the details think about the story as being positive about Obama or negative. Are they describing some draw back or possible flaw in his campaign personality etc. For instance the media reporting about having his kids on a cable TV program and then saying it was a mistake. The media said he shouldn't of done it on a cable show but on 60 minutes or some other high minded news story program. Again a negative connotation. While I have not checked out ABC, CBS or NBC coverage, the stories on CNN and FOX have that negative bias towards Obama. FOX seems to have a more positive slant than CNN, if that is possible. But it is daming him with a negative praise.
My take on it is that the media corporations are not very happy with Obama, and are afraid of his socialism and running this country right into the ground. Take a look at the ground swell against Obama....The Jessie Jackson story, the NAACP story....all are not painting Obama in a very good light...everything is he is more trouble than he is worth attitude. I can say one thing very clearly that the Big Dem supporters on Wall Street are not very happy with him. Those guys were for Hillary, because they knew they could work with her. As part of Hillary's going away present she had to introduce those supporters to Obama and that meeting did not go well, they got a blank stare from him as they talked, he just nodded his head up and down while muttering under his breath, "Most remove the profit motive with more taxes and regulation." All one can say is that there are a lot of powerful forces that plain just don't like Obama....including that Liberal rag the NYer. Another factor that has not been mentioned is Tedy Kennedy and the amount of influence he can still wield. The question is, is he still well enough to do anything? They say he is responding well to chemo, and is at home. With the amount of money he has, his home can become a vertible ICU. Tedy has to show his face somewhere, to show that he is still a force to be reckoned with. Otherwise.... If it were not for Tedys support ole Bama would not be the nominee, Hillary would have been able to pull it out.

The New Yorker has a long history of being outrageous, that is part of their charm. They llke to get it out there first. That cover is a gem! I agree with you Tabs on the Obama deal. By the way, Teddy was in Congress last week for a key vote, with Caroline in tow.
