Well, I am off to my friendly neighborhood used gum dealer. He just called to let me know that my piece :eek: has made it to his shop.:cool:

"Open bolt piece"?? Not sure of the application in civlian life. The open bolt is purely for cooling on full auto weapons. Actually aiming, firing a single round, and subsequent hitting with an open bolt is all but impossible. The bolt slamming forward negates any possibility of precision. What the hell are you buying, and what the hell do you plan on using it for?

I used to have an M-11A1 by RPB. Lots of fun, but impractical.

Jeff - its his right to own rock n' roll stuff, (I'm just jealous he can afford to feed such a beast), and even the sloppy open bolt MACs are fun to shoot. It is possible even with an open bolt to keep small bursts of 3-5 rounds on a target at a reasonable distance.

Oh, I know it's his right. I would never argue that. But, like cashflyer points out, these open bolt guns are horribly impractical. The only way to have any fun is to burn copious amounts of ammo on very large, very close targets. No such thing as "aimed fire" with such a beast. One can never become a more proficient shooter by "spraying and praying" from the hip, which these things encourage. It's what they are designed to do.

I see a lot of neophyte, casual shooters with these things. Bought to impress themselves and their shooting buddies. If these guys stay with shooting for very long at all, and decide they want to actually get good at it, the open bolt guns get abandonded. They are almost completely useless to a civilian. It doesn't take most long to figure that out.

Stens and UZI's are open bolt.... Hmmm...

Joe, I don't have any pics yet of my latest piece, just as soon as I install new batteries in the camera, it goes through all of its start-up mode, then the green light turns red, and the camera goes off. I will have to have my youngest Son take a look at it, as he know much more about computers and related items. He built my last 2 super computers, and he is quite talented with the electronics.

It looks like it just came out of a time capsule.

Sounds like a very cool gun, and certainly a compliment to your collection. It sounds like you are into this class of weapon, and know what you are doing. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures when your son figures out your camera (my sons serve as my "tech support" on all of this fancy new-fangled electronic stuff as well).

Please excuse my impertinence. In my (admittdly weak) defense, I have become very, very jaded towards the "black rifle" crowd. The "open bolt" subset of these erstwhile Rambos seem to be the worst of the worse. These tend to be the guys that show up at the range and proceed to chew up the target frames, the overhead baffles, and everything in between. Poor gun handling skills and poor attitudes. I've lost track of how many I've run off of our club range over the years. You are obviously not one of them. You have my appologies.

FWIW georgia-arms.com has good 45 ball ammo "canned heat". ~$120 for 500 rounds

Not likely now that I ever will...The prices have just gotten too high. I have seen some semi auto replicas for around 1500-2000 though. Thats an option for me...still not as cool as OB...
In the condition that yours is in I would never fire that thing. I would not want to add any wear to it. That is one awesome weapon.

3.2 what year was your 1928 model made. Was it really made in 1928? (if so that's a very valuable piece, but then again all NFA registy Thompsons are!)

I'm assuming it is of course a NFA registry firearm. How long did it take for the paperwork to come back from the ATF after filing?

A suggestion. While its really nice to hear about all the toys you might "edit" your post above to delete the guns you posted about. The less that anyone knows what is in your house, the less of a chance that you have in being robbed. A good thief can steal anything and you cannot be at home all the time...

Would hate to see these stolen...

Hi Joe, things like those are not kept in my house, due to the obvious reasons. The biggest is not really just because that I would miss them, or they cost me a bundle, but... the main reason, is just what I have had to deal with, for just about all 35+ years of the hunt, there are just too many liabilities involved with someone trying to safeguard items at home, even if they are secured in a super nice safe. I still have enough of my "previous life" connections that just about every one of the really nice items, are secured in actual walk-in vaults, just like the ones in most banks and other places that need a high level of security.

Jeff, I know exactly "the type" of people that you are referring to. I have had to deal with some of those people myself. I used to go with some people in the Houston area, that could not go to the private ranges of various agencies with me. I would join them at some of the "public ranges" and you could spot "the type" just walking around the place.

Heck, with all of the titanium implants in my neck and spine, I hardly ever do more than clean the cobwebs off any of them... it just kicks my a$$ too much now. Tony.

From the post title and the above, why would you want used gum? New isn't that expensive you know.

I stay away from used gum. I prefer the new stuff.

Spray and pray is fun but in most cases give me a sawed off 12 Ga (just my opinion)

what kinda water head would break into his house knowing he owns full auto hardware? Thats about as smart as kicking in Evander Holyfield's door.

I know the Uzi pretty well from my previous life. Its a nice weapon but I really prefer the MP5 a lot more.

Lots of fun but I am still a "one shot, one kill" sort of guy from way back.
