Noah, lighten up. The reason socialism has such popularity is not simply because much of the world lacks your complete understanding of the terrible dangers. Neither system is perfect. Nor is any one system "pure evil."

I look at the "capitalism" image and I see a very specific specific familiarity. Having worked to enforce wage-and-hour laws, I can tell you we have theifs in suits on just about every street corner. We know their address and phone number. And yet it goes on. Cheating workers out of minimum wage, overtime, etc., is a "gentlemens' game." It is laughed about over drinks. When a business does this, and many do, it is just about EXACTLY what is pictured in Thom's opening post. And that is just one very simple, very obvious example of truth in that image. There are many, many others. Go ahead and love and support your beloved capitalism. I see your reasons. Capitalism is great in many ways. But this business of socialism being scary and evil is......evidence of myopia.

Some of the Pelicanheads here on OT live in countries you call "socialist." Sweden, by any measure, is very much socialist. And it regularly gets high scores, sometimes the highest on the planet, for their enviable living standard. Don't pretend that support for socialism can only come from ignorant people. It comes from informed people also.
