N-word is word of endearment according to Whoopi and Sherri

Elisabeth Hasselbeck in Tears After 'View' Discussion on N-Word

"View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck was in tears Thursday after a discussion about the use of the n-word, in which fellow co-host Whoopi Goldberg told her the two "don't live in the same world."

During a segment covering Jesse Jackson's recent use of the n-word while preparing to tape an interview on FOX News, Whoopi and co-host Sherri Shepard, who are both black, contested that the word has a different meaning for black people.

"It's something that means something way different to me than it does to you," said Shepard. "I can use it as a term of endearment."

Shepard also said to co-host Barbara Walters: "I don't want to hear it come out of your mouth."

Hasselbeck contested that "We [blacks and whites] don't live in different worlds, we live in the same world."

Goldberg, who used the n-word repeatedly during the broadcast (it was bleeped out), said that "We don't live in the same world. What I need you to understand is the frustration that goes along with when you say we live in the same world. It isn't balanced."

Hasslebeck tearfully replied that "when we live in a world where pop culture then uses that term, and we're trying to get to a place where we feel like we're in the same place, where we feel like we're in the same world ... how are we supposed to then move forward if we keep using terms that bring back that pain?"

URY914 07-18-2008 12:41 PM

She should have called Whoopi a N to see how she would like it.

Why cry????

Red Baron 07-18-2008 12:41 PM

The Thread Rating Fairy doesn't like the n-word.

The fact is most African Americans do not want to walk the politically correct tightrope and are happy to use the word as they see fit.

It is in fact used as a term of endearment and as an epithet in the black community. It does mean way different things. I for one don't and wont use it and should not use it, but black folks can use it among themselves as they see fit.

Elisabeth should get a grip.

As a friend of really dark color told me, black folk use the word "niggah" but whitey (i.e. Kurt) uses the word "nigger," which is totally different.

So which one do they use when they are about to "Buss a cap in yo ass" on each other?

Thank you, Kurt. I was offended but now I am not.

If Whoppi and a lot of other blacks want to use derogatory words to describe themselves that's great (whether endearingly or otherwise). But words aren't exclusive. If you get to use I get to too. I would have called Sherri a nigga then and there (we know Barbara wouldn't). Who said the niggaz get to set the rules?

BTW Whoopi is the crudest, ugliest, nappiest headed ho' I know. And is Barbara Walters really still alive? I'm starting to have my doubts.

"Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord, why dont we? " :D

I suppose it would be okay with whoopi if whites had a word like that...

Whites could call each other "Master" and blacks would have to use "Massah"

Please....whoopi is just another POS racist mouthpiece.

I think this subject might have come up once before.

I guess we did not beat it to death then and now we are coming to enlightened conclusions..

URY914 07-18-2008 01:33 PM

Why did the "whitest" women on the panel cry when she spoke about the word?

Strange.

I'm sure you wouldn't win any beauty pageants either. But wow, she sure is way more successful than you'll ever be. Life's unfair!

IMHO, I think that we are adults that should understand there is a lot of gray areas in life. Elizabeth crying was a lack of understanding the real world. I work with a lot of black rappers in my business and can tell you the word is used all day long. I myself, do not use it, but I can understand their point. For all those who love to quote Southpark to denigrate Al Gore, they should watch the episode concerning the word N*****. Kyle finally realizes that the answer to the use of the N-word by blacks was that he DOESN'T GET IT.

I also asked my friend about the word "axed" and he explained that it's something you are brought up to say because it sounds "cool". And admitted that he says it more around his black friends than his white ones. Is he wrong for doing that? No. It is true that blacks and whites live in a completely different culture in America, and that will never change, so get used to it and learn to adapt. :smilewavy:

not so much. When my wife is very angry, she will cry. If you are in an argument with her and you see tears, wisest course is to shut up and get out of range.

Whoopi is almost as bad as Jessie Jackson, nasty person.
