Especially for PWD:

Went out to dinner last night w/ a friend who just got one of those new Dodge Challengers, supposedly the first one on the road here. I took a few lousy pic of it in the parking ramp, but I can't post them yet because of a file-size problem. (See other thread I just started).

Anywhoo..., it's black, I sat in it, didn't really want to drive it. He says that it's a complete POS, but sort of fast. Porsche just had to buy back his '07 911 for the lemon-law, (knew that PWD would like this part), apparently it had some problem that the dealer could not fix on 3 tries and IMO he just took advantage of the law. The Dodge is no Porsche, though. He misses that lemon already. It's a Chrysler 300 w/ a different body, you can tell the minute you sit in it. It's huge and heavy.

He said it gets more attention than any car he's ever driven, and he's had a lot of muscle and sports cars. How anyone could shell-out hard-earned $$ for one is a head-scratcher. It's a cheap POS that uses gas like a toilet being flushed, in that way it's a faithful replica of the original. The attention and excitement will wear off in about a month and it will be as collectible as a Pontiac Fiero. He got the car for free from Chrysler, or should I say his fiance got it for free for some promotional thing and she didn't want it, so she gave it to him. He just gave back his car and needed a car, so he's driving it. It did light-up the tires pretty well leaving, but in 2008 that is not really impressive performance. Anyhow, I'll load the photos when I figure out how to resize them.

Yeah...well, I'll drive one and make my own opinion. No hurry, since my basic transport needs are taken care of. But really, I'm no longer interested in P-cars. There is one very cool '40 Ford featured in the latest HOT ROD...alas, probably more $$$ than a GT3...

You see, I don't have a ton of car money waiting...I purposely gave Evren a half price sale on the 911S.
This assures it will never be in the hands of flippers, strippers, and pimps.

An old hotrod or street rod, (top quality of course), would be worlds cooler and probably a better investment than this car. It's a boat. He's thinking about having it supercharged to 600 hp since it was free, but even that's not very interesting.

What you did with your car is your business, I've never had an opinion about that. I might have done similar.

Our neighbor has one and it's supercharged. He owns GS Motorsports and they install superchargers and other expensive addons onto factory performance cars. His shop's been on TV, I think Dream Car Garage and some others.

He also has a Magnum, 300, SUV, and Chryslers new little cruiser, name escapes me. Anyway, they are all supercharged Chrysler/Dodge hemi's and sound pretty mean.

Paul - replace that new-fangled truck of yours with an original Power Wagon.

Yup, a '47 or earlier.

Now there's a thought. One of the real ones, with a power takeoff feature.

Actually, despite it being a year since the 911S left here, I haven't a clue what I really want to do automotively. Don't even know if I want anything beyond basic transportation these days. Oh, I do know one thing...if the greens ever pass a law saying one vehicle per household? My choice would be a pickemup...just can't imagine life without one.

Here are the pics that I wanted to post last night, not very good but there it is. Should have gotten a shot of the burn-out when he left. I guess I can see the appeal of it in a strictly nostalgia sense, it does look like the old Challenger.

O.K. It would toast my car but in ten years my car will still be an Icon. Looks pretty sweet though.

The car looks great. But it's size is pretty impressive, as others have pointed out in the past. Pretty telling was the photograph in Road & Track from last month, I believe, which showed the new car side-by-side from the rear, compared to Sam Posey's Sublime Green #77 Trans-Am racecar. The modern car looks to be twice as tall (no joke) as the original. Yowsa.

I think it looks GREAT,
right now,

and every day from today until

the day I see one every 45 seconds on the street. Which, IMO, will probably be about a month.

Only comes in automatic until 2009 model. FWIW, I knew a guy back in the early '70s who had a AAR 'cuda w/ 340 6-pack and auto trans on console. The trans was beefed w/ shift kit and high stall speed TQ, it was one of the quickest cars around.

Those are much better pictures, but it's the same car. He said that it's getting ~8 mpg on premium, he has a heavy foot but not enough to get tickets or get in accidents. (For the many years I've known him). So it's a free car that's costing him probably $700 @ month to drive, + insurance, which is not cheap on a 425hp car.

I've seen a couple original ones for sale on the street down here. And they were on the street for sometimes a month, maybe two months.

Of course, few people here know what a Power Wagon is.

Oh, but they sure know their Hummer H2s.
