OT; my last project... a rear engined cab

not quite a porsche... but genetically quite similar. I bought this on a whim off a fellow who lives several miles from me. Its no porsche substitute, but I had to have something to wrench on, for fear of losing my mind! It came down between this, and several newer, fuel injected cars. What won me over is the fact that this had no significant rust to begin with.

Just thought I'd share... If ever you need something fun to play with consider one of these... really simple to work on, and a fun as heck. Now that its done, I suppose its time to sell and move on, so if anyone likes what they see, PM me, I'm open to offers. SmileWavy

Very cool! Great work there!

Put a round windshield and you're in. The wheels look superb. Have fun broth.

thanks! yeah, if I were to keep it I would go for a nice curved windshield, and a ceramic coated exhaust, but alas...

Swing axles?

Install a roll bar.

unimog406 07-21-2008 05:46 AM

great looking project procon!
and yeah, it does have swing axles... I actually have a roll bar for it, and havn't yet gotten around to bolting it up. If I were going to keep this, I'd weld in a pretty substantial roll cage, but quite frankly it scares me enough that I'm just going to be happy to see it go [provided of course someone wants to buy it]

A Mustang is missing it's tail lights.

Cool project.

I don't think so, I believe it is one of the original 'bounty hunters'

Lots of Porsche potential. There was a 356 disc brake set up in the 356 classifieds not too far back, there are running 356 and 912 motors for sale on the Registry forums, etc :). Heck, one of the original Herbies was all 356 underneath....

Or maybe a 914 engine and a 5 speed 912 trans?

unimog406 07-21-2008 06:21 PM

haha, yeah that could all be fun. You'd be suprised how far 54 HP goes when the entire vehicle weighs about the same as a tissue box.....

id10t 07-21-2008 07:12 PM

My 356 coupe has a curb weight of 1900lbs and no more than the 75hp it came from the factory with. I imagine you're around 1100 or so lbs full... so you've definately got the potential for more get up n go...

The more I think about it... 356 C running gear (disc brakes), 5spd 901 transmission, and a "mild" 125hp Typ IV engine :) I'm really good at spending other folks money 8D

unimog406 07-22-2008 05:46 AM

haha yeah thats always an option!
I'll have to see if I can dig out the picture, but I remember seeing one of these with with a turbocharged hayabusa engine.... and then there always the front mount v8 option!
