"new" garage floor--epoxy
 

Spent the day finally doing my garage floor. I have been debating on what to do.

This RustOleum Epoxy was on sale at Menards for 42.00 per kit(250 sq.ft per kit)
The kit comes with the epoxy, hardener, cement etching chemical, and the flakes to spread around. It was a lotof work to cram into one day and I am sore but I think it will have been worth it.

The masking tape is still up in spots as I couldn't get back into the garage to remove it.

Nice! I have the same floor. Installed on new garage floor so I didn't much cleaning to do. It has held up pretty good for 4 years. There is one small patch that seemed to come up with a hot tire, but it never happened again.

Is your slip showing when you close the door? (did you paint outside the door?):D

I used the Rustoleum on my garage floor. About a month in it started pulling up with car tires. I did all the prep acording to the instructions, so either it's not that great of a product or my garage floor was in really bad shape. I'm kinda leaning towards my floor being the problem..

I have seen people use some lexan rectangles laid down on the surface to keep the hot tires from sticking, or even cold tires staining the floors. They were a little over sized, so either the fronts or rears could be parked on top of them. Some used the double stick tape to hold them in place, on dedicated parking spots on the floors. Tony.

Looks Great! I bought two kits about two years ago.....they're still on the shelf but looking at you photos is motivating.

Super clean job...I've done mine four years ago...Still look like that.

That looks great man, and for comparison I'll link my thread that was done by a professional. If you look at my floor and your floor, there is no difference, you've done an amazing job.

Nice work! I was going to do that a couple of years ago when I rebuilt my garage but got lazy and did racedeck flooring instead.

A general question for those with a finished floor-> Is it really slippery if wet? I have contemplated doing my floor but worry about falling on my @ss in the winter.

For mine the "flecks" give it traction.

I used the Rust-O-Leum stuff on mine, but sans flecks. I've been very impressed- looks great, easy to keep clean, just wish I'd done a better job of sealing the cracks!

I was torn on whether to do outside the doors but decided to go ahead and do it anyway. I don't think I like it now that I shut them. They are tan and the gray really shows up. I think maybe I should have gone with the tan color instead.
I didn't add any of the traction compound as the fella at Menard's told me it really wasn't necessary.

I'm going to get some tiles for the cars to park on if the paint starts to come up.

1st thing I did on the new house.

Got the Rustoleum stuff at Lowes. Interesting that the kit is $70.00.

I bought the Rustoleum components individually, gallon of paint $25, etcher $12 and the flakes were $8. Almost 1/2 the kit price.

I ended up using 2 gallons for 2 coats on a 3 car garage.

I opted to forgo the chips, thought it would make it more difficult to find small screws and such when dropped.

The kit is two parts, epoxy resin and reactor. I don't think paint is going to be as affective. I find the chips act as non-slip.

Reading the labels in store would not give you any indication that they are different products.

Both have the same features, hot tire pickup resistant, gas and other fluid resistant etc...

Guess I'll be repainting in a couple of years which is fine, any reason to spend a couple of hours alone in the garage with a few cold ones is a good reason.

I didn't know that can existed. It says Epoxy Shield, except "1 part" on the side. It may be the same thing. I know they sell "concrete paint" and that wouldn't be as durable. Sounds like you compared them, so you're probably good.

I bought the 400 or 500 sq ft package in 2004. Can't remember the price. Wasn't much. Well worth it anyway.

The gallon was a ***** to mix, there was a huge difference in the viscosity of the materials in the can so maybe they figured out a way to prevent it from curing until it is stirred and exposed to air?

WOW! :eek: Can't wait to see it in person. Looks great! I may actually have to do this now.

Yeah, it is nice. Fully cured now and no tire pick up at all.

I'm not sure what we would do with your lift, though. It's way too heavy to go back on the floor for a few days. I guess we could just roll it outside?
