No, that statement isn't ignorant, all your other statements were.

Physicians don't ask for money before providing emergency services either. Not only that, but physicians often provide free care to those who cannot pay. The hospitals and docs eat the cost. Bet you didn't know that either.

Case in point, I have a kid on my service now who came in near death in liver failure. We won't go into the details of why he was in liver failure, it isn't important. Bottom line is the kid has no insurance whatsoever, has no ability to pay any bill and yet has been in my hospital for 3 weeks now recovering. 12 days of that was in ICU. He has received over 28 units of blood, 15 units of blood products, was on the ventilator for 4 days and has been on dialysis for 2 weeks now. He also received three doses of recombinant Factor 7 (to help stop his bleeding) which was $8000 per dose. His bill is probably somewhere north of $400k by now, all of which the hospital will eat. None of the 8 physicians (including myself) who have worked countless hours on this kid will get a dime. Guess what? We don't care. We saved a 20 year old kids life.

By the way, he's probably going home tomorrow to his family.

Keep your ignorant delusions about medicine all you want. You'll likely never know the truth.
