I can't help thinking that SF is the place to be if you're a single, straight guy.
So I was at a UCSF Med School auditorium today surrounded by pretty, fit, stylish and single med school, pharm school female students. I was outnumbered probably 5 to 1 because I have a feeling some of the fellas in there play for the other team. With so many beautiful Jills if SF, why the hell go for Jack? I guess you'd have to be born one.
Anyway, even a fat, 44 y/o like me was getting some looks from the ladies. Maybe it was my suit, maybe it was my walk or maybe it's because I'm obviously straight with my wedding ring and all. If I was young, single and straight, I'd live in the city and never, ever be w/o a date. So many girls, so little time. I think I may have started a thread like this a couple of years ago. I've not changed my mind a bit. |

If you drop your keys, you have to kick 'em to Oakland before you bend over to pick 'em up!

Isn't the S.F. ratio of women to straight men something like 4 to 1? I read that somewhere. Notice, I say all women, which includes lesbians.
Yes, lesbians are known to twist a man-stick now and then. ;) |
I lived in SF when I was 20-23 y/o, a single, straight, young professional type.
Yes, you are correct. And then one day you find that you've kicked yourself out of the Cow Hollow apartment of a beautiful Italian-American photographer because, well, she was just getting on your nerves. And then you answer an ad for a roommate, and find yourself living in the Castro with a wacky freelance computer programmer, the two of you probably the only straight guys within 15 houses. And there are almost no women in the neighborhood. Ah well, time for another life phase. |
The Castro is not exactly the place to be looking for straight chicks, John.
|
Which is why I shortly thereafter moved to LA.

S.F. is an interesting place to visit for a day, but that's about it. No way in hell I'd ever live there.
Not to mention the cost of living is absolutely ridiculous. I think you'd need to make about $200k a year just to be able to live "okay". And if I were lucky enough to be making $200k a year, I can think of way better places I could live on that kind of scratch. |
The "fruit and nuts" aspect and the political background would keep me from EVER living there.
For that matter, do not believe that there is enough money to get me to live anywhere in Kalifornia ever gain... |
personally, i love it here. i am pushing hard for my next gig to be in the city (doyle drive, for the locals). the women are hot, smart, witty, and have JOBS. i am married, and i met my wife here. as far as the alternative lifestyle...i find it shameful and sad that all the homophobes think about the gay people here as their first thought after someone mentions san francisco. i promise they are in your town too. they just keep in on the "down low" because of all the hate.
cantdrv55 is in sales, and everyone knows hot chicks sell stuff better. i would love to hang at one of his events playing doctor. |
Even if they're hot, they're still socialists and therefore, the enemy.

I had a gay R.A. in college my sophomore year. He was a jerk and drunk with what little power an R.A. has. He was particulalry intolerant of drinking and was known for calling the university police whenever he thought he heard a bottle clink in someones room. Whenever anyone tried to engage him in conversation and he didn't like where it was headed, he was prone to blurt out: "You just don't like me because I'm gay!". Much like Jesse Jackson uses accusations of racism to shield himself from legitimate criticism, this R.A. used accusations of homophobia to shield himself. |
i really like you guys in a straight way. take joe's statement. fruits and nut....that is political?
funny..yes, political...no. |
Mules reply was the funniest thing I've ever read on this board!!! I've been here since 1996. I love it here. I have not really felt the socialist, gay, attitude most here are speaking of. I don't get it. Could smebody really explain with some examples how they were affected by this? Just trying to understand it, that's all.
I love it here, so much good food, girls everywhere, but it's not really like 4 to 1 as some say. There are plenty of straight guys here. It's true that the girls are generally highly educated. My last few g/fs graduated from Duke, Penn st., and Santa Clara uni. The last with a degree in Finance, she is the one I'm stuck with, who spends her time reading books on electronics, taking me gun shooting, and such. |
Ever see that episode of "South Park" where Cartman has to wear a space suit to stand setting foot in San Fran (it was part of the "smug" episode)? Hilarious stuff. I don't quite feel the same level of disdain, but close. Maybe I'm just afraid of either catching the gay disease or the socialist disease being up there. Or maybe the smug disease. Or the its-normal-to-pay-$4,000-a-month-for-an-apartment disease. Maybe someone will develop a vaccine, then I'll feel more comfortable up there.

The Mule rules. That comment was drop dead funny.

The ridiculous parking issue and the general feeling of being in a chicken coop deters me from wanting to live in the city every time I visit my gf there.
|
Both sides of my family are from the Bay Area, The City and the rest of NorCal. I went to school there.
As far as the women and being a straight guy, it was like shooting fish in a barrel.:) The best part was the range of ethnicities and women from all over the globe...no better place to be young and on step. |
i agree that the ratio is good. but san francisco is just disgusting. an ex lived near 5th and natoma. looked like calcutta, with less dignity.
and i've found that women are attracted to men with disposable income. that's an expensive as all hell city. |
Yeah. The biggest turn off is how expensive it is there. And how crowded it is. If I need an S.F. fix, I'll watch "Bullit," or "The Rock." ;)
