3 days no smokey

I decided I wanted to quit smoking and today is day 3. dammit I wanna smoke so bad right now lol. But I wont.

K. Roman 07-22-2008 04:19 PM

Don't do it. I suggest getting a bottle of vodka. Keep it in the freezer and take a half a shot when you are craving a smoke. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but it worked for me!
Good luck.

I chew tobacco now from time to time though!

Oh Haha 07-22-2008 04:20 PM

Do something to take your mind of wanting one. NOT anything that you would have normally done WHILE having one, though.Changing the habits that went along with smoking is one of the hardest things.

Hang in there, Bud!!! You can do it. We're here for you. :)

slakjaw 07-22-2008 04:21 PM

Not gonna do it! I am sick of smoking the cigs man....

Oh Haha 07-22-2008 04:28 PM

If I may offer another piece of advice from a former smoker:

Stay away from others that partake. Stay away from places that make you want to have one.

Six days on the patch, we'll see.

Tidybuoy 07-22-2008 04:38 PM

I quit 20 years ago. I made it by sleeping and not taking a shower. I figured it I didn't take a shower, I wouldn't go to the store to buy any cigs. I had previously thrown out all cigeretts, ash trays and lighting supplies. I had three days off and I basicily slept for three days. Once I past the 3 day mark - I couldn't beleive it. I had never quit longer than 2 hours before that.
Days 4-10 were easy. I started getting cravings after 10 days but they were easy to resist.

3 years no smokey.

It was the easiest thing i've ever done. Really.

Another piece of advice from another former smoker:

Stay away from cigarettes.

And this should help: "If you smoke again, you're a puss!"

;) Good luck.

TOMMORROW IS THE WORST DAY...AFTER DAY 4 ALL NICOTINE IS OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM. AFTER THAT ITS PSYCHOLOGICAL/HABIT. THE PHYSICAL PART WILL BE DONE. you can do it!!!!!!!!

I managed to pick it up again last month, but am now ~1 week without a smoke. Those first few days are the toughest, as is the first weekend.

I substitute salted, undyed pistachios. I eat them till I burn my tongue and get chapped lips... but it works.

Good luck man, 3 days is a big deal!!!

azasadny 07-22-2008 05:35 PM

Excellent! Stay strong!!

crustychief 07-22-2008 05:44 PM

Awesome!! Stay at it. I went for 90 days while on deployment but pussed out when I got home and started again. I am taking ZYBAN to help this time though. a couple more days and I will be smoke free as well.

TerryH 07-22-2008 06:06 PM

If you really want to quit. You will. It's the folks that think they want to quit or wish they didn't stink or their wife/family want you quit, or are just tired of going outside to puff that fail. You only have to be 1% stronger/smarter than that pack of smokes. We all know you can do it. If you really really really want to.

I smoked 30+ years. Minimum 2 packs a day, if I was drinking heavy it could be twice that. One morning I finally decided I wanted to quit. Cold turkey for me. Tried that patch thing for one day, but I usually work outside and patches don't stick to sweat. It does get easier day by day. So take it one minute, one hour, one day, at a time. Not that much different than the AA mantra.

It's been over 5 years now and I still occasionally pat my empty shirt pocket when drinking a beer or coffee. Old habits are hard to break and easy fall back into. Remove all temptation for at least a month.

I've smoked a few celebratory cigars since with no lasting effect. They were yummy actually. ;)

Everyone here is wishing you good luck and success!

Edited: bad word removed

The day I quit, I went out drinking with friends in a smoky bar. I said hell, if I'm going to do, may as well do it hardcore and face the temptations head on! And I did. It was a piece of cake for me! But then I had only smoked for maybe 10 years or so, not 20 or 30.

Good luck!

Christien 07-22-2008 06:10 PM

Oh yeah, and 10 years later I can't stand the smell of cigarettes - the thought of smoking makes me nauseous! Though I do occasionally have dreams where I smoke.

gassy 07-22-2008 07:43 PM

Good luck man!

slakjaw 07-23-2008 01:32 PM
