This is easily the one of the most heavily armed boards that I regularly visit. It's also the most whacked by far but that's a different story. Given the former, however, and the fact that it is largely made up of professionals (by and large, we do drive Porsches and BMWs - not your typical toothless crowd) I have a difficult time believing there are a bunch of emails flying discussing a high level of fear over what seems to be a fairly loose level of moderation.

Nostatics use of his spare time, however, is a little bit scary, I'll give you that. In fact, I'll probably email myself about it later.

This used to be my favorite board because it seemed more reserved and mature then the typical car board, but I am finding myself clicking on the link less and less and reading less and less when I do stop by. This thread illustrates why perfectly.

I just spent the last few days fishing - not my thing. My son asked about fly fishing (he liked the flies at the store) but I've never done it. I don't think have the patience for it (neither does the boy).

my hint for the day: bcc yourself when you do. That way you have multiple copies but you don't know that the sender did it.

Yeah, sure - and start an infinite loop that will eventually destroy the world? I don't think so.

Man this thing sure took off!

OK so we cant use colorful spellings to get around the language filter – no problem – rules are rules.

It appears that its still an OK and acceptable practice in the technical forum. I guess its ok when you are talking about parts or frustrated at your car or whatever. :)

Dave, in the past, it was something that -- we did a "look the other way" here too. Until it got out of hand.

Different mods, different tolerances.

I'm ok with that.

I was gonna ask if it's still OK to say that Todd is a poopyhead, but I doan wanna push my luck ;)

I've noticed a trend lately, a regular thread starts out OK and then by page two or three it deteriorates quickly into two or three members going back and forth with insults.
It's got to the point where a thread that goes past three pages isn't worth opening up, unless someone feels the need to jump in with a jab and then jump out.

And it's usually the same small group of folks. I've also noticed that the most active instigator tends to get others slapped but not himself.
Word to the rest: wise up. Don't let a troll drag you into a urinating match, he'll get you so fired up you do cross the line and get slapped, then he laughs at you. That's what trolls do.
It's just the internet people, it isn't worth getting aggravated over! I've watched otherwise reasonable regular guys turn into wackos because they let a troll get under their skin. It's happened to me a couple of times. Don't be that guy.

Use the ignore feature for trolls. Don't feed the troll. Don't acknowledge a troll. Don't reply to a troll.
Don't ever quote a troll, that is one of the worst things you can do. That means that everyone sees the troll's post even if he is on ignore.
Trolls don't like talking to themselves so they will go away if we ignore them and if we do that the moderators don't have to turn into day-care workers. They have enough to do without raising internet children. No offense..........

I agree with Sammy.

I'm offended by the phrase "urinating match".

I say 4 days until Joeaska is back.

Unbelievable that a simple "clean up the language" edict turns into this train wreck!!

This has to be about the funniest thing I have ever read on OT....

Dammed if you do, and dammed if you do not. Guess we are now not supposed to question anything a moderator does. Nothing like having a God complex and getting pissed off at someone, anyone questioning anything.

Funny thing is that the private emails I have been getting suggest that I am far from being alone, but they are afraid of you guys.

Will make it easy for you guys. Goodby...
I enjoy reading some of the OT posts.... the random pictures is usually a treat.. and then there are a few threads in between that are interesting...

Somehow someone ALWAYS interjects politics into some threads.. Both sides are guilty..

Why don't you guys grow up? wow editing quotes to align them with your view, making demeaning spellings of posters screen names....

What a bunch of woman..

This isn't my forum, but I''d never let some of this non-sense be associated with my business...

/off soap box

The latest update:
m21sniper is banned permanently. Repeated disregard for the forum rules.

I am really getting sick of this. Maybe we should close the Off Topic forums for a while.
