Your "extensive military experience" taught you this huh? Thats a good joke... haha...

All elite - all unique - Royal Marines are up there in their training. Great story.

Funny, from what I've been told by my Marine buddies, a Ranger = Marine Infantryman fresh from bootcamp :D

What's funny is a Ranger will read this comment, find you out, come to your house in the middle of the night - Tattoo your forehead with "ranger's rule" (backwards so you can read it in the mirror), have sex with your wife, have sex with your dog, drink the beer in your refrigerator - all unbeknown to you until you wake up.

Yea scary! I wouldn't care if it was a Marine though.

And if a Marine was "insulted" in this manner, he'd come to your house in the middle of the day, in broad daylight, take pictures of your dog having sex with your wife, drink all the beer in your fridge and write his name in pi$$ on your forehead, all the while, you would know he was there and what he was doing!

(Actually, I'm just kidding....he wouldn't take pictures of something that disgusting! ;) )

Semper fi!

Since this thing has veered so far off the original topic of the man's heroism, I'll point out that - today - everybody is special and everybody in the Army wears a beret. With just a tad of simplification:

82nd - Airborne (parachutes)
101st - Air Mobile (helos; does that qualify for "Death From Above"?)
Army Rangers - light infantry, some special ops
10th Mtn Div. - mountain warfare
Spec. Forces - special ops in smaller packages, counter-insurgency

hey - wait there's more....

3rd ID - the high-tech Div.
4th ID - the quick deployment Div.; often w/attached airborne air moble elements
Big Red One - the heavy duty Div. - able to take a Soviet Tank assault right in the teeth

The Marines, of course, are not to be outdone by Army Special Forces. They have patiently explained that all marines are special. As a reserve argument (somewhat like a reserve element in a battle) they have outfitted some MEFs with "Special Ops Capabilities."

The Navy long ago progressed from UDT to Seal Teams.

And the Air Force has special ops teams.

Now, who's left... ah - yes the Coast Guard. Not sure about them.

I'm not saying that the special operization of virtually the entire military is bad. In some ways, it give quite a bit of ability to fit a unit or group of units to a given problem. But it has gone pretty far.

Wow! I was a USN Corpsman and spent 7 1/2 years out of my 9 with the USMC and those guys were something else! The British Marines I was stationed with in Desert Storm were very impressive, too!

My best friend is an Army Green Beret...10th Group. The guy speaks five languages...a complete genius. When we graduated from college, I was surprised when he enlisted (instead of going to OCS)...because he wanted more action. He eats, drinks and breathes that lifestyle. I couldn't be any more proud of him being my friend.

I have the highest respect for anybody that serves.

For the guys on this board who have served.....thank you.
