I can feel my mullet growing

I had this itch in the back of my head and felt my mullet growing at full speed.

"Hi my name is Speedy and I test drove a Corvette"

I was at the chevy dealership getting tires installed on my crappy Saturn and was able to somehow talk the sales guy into letting me test drive a '07 Vette. I am afraid I must say the car drove very nice and had monster power. I quite liked driving it. I was expecting a spine shattering ride that shook my fillings out but even with the suspension set on Sport it was rather compliant.

I may have to spring for a big gold chain and get hair implants on my chest.

Speedy

Corvettes have come a long way.

The Z06 now has dry-sump lubrication, and weighs less than the new 911.

The base Corvette has 400 hp, and gets 30 mpg on the highway. Quite a car.

I was turning about 1200 RPM in 6th at 60 MPH and was still able to accelerate comfortably up a good size hill.

The Vette had the same acceleration in 6th gear turning 1200 RPM as my '83 944 does in 5th at 2400 RPM.

It was a pretty comfy car overall.

I raced an 04 Zo6 from light to light in my decidedly non-stock 928S once. LOL....those are some fast god damn cars.

The funny thing is when I was done with the test drive I asked the sales guy to pop the hood so I could look at the engine. While the hood was up 2 guys in brand new Roush Mustangs were driving by very slowly. As they drove by they were honking their horn and waving. I asked the salesman if he knew those guys but he didn't.

One thing I was surprised about was how much attention the car got as I drive it. Kids were stopping in their tracks, pointing at the car and exclaiming "WOW that's a Corvette! COOOLL!" There was another teenage ~16 boy who almost fell off his bike. I was stopped wanting to turn right and we was waiting to cross but first he wanted to see the car. I gave the kid a little full throttle show through 2nd and 3rd gear up to 3000 RPM.

I would of never guessed people cared that much about the Vette. I mean it is JUST a Vette isn't it?

In Evansville WI (pop. 4039), probably a big deal. Here (SoFLA), you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Vette (or Lambo, Ferrari, Porsche, etc. etc.).

I guess it was their reaction to the Vette verses the reaction I have ever received from driving the 944. It was like night and day (Not that I am looking for something to attract attention but actually the opposite)

I'm not so sure of that any more either. The build quality has coem up a lot recently.

so have the instruments

I think the Viper is now what the old 'cettes were at least as far as blunt objects to go fast in.

The last 2 iterations of the 'vette are able to run with most anything. If you factor in the price....

So here is my take...
I have an 07 Vette. The car, from a performance only viewpoint is amazing. It accelerates incredibly, has insane handling, great brakes, etc. I have a non-Z06 with the Z51 suspension package. Here is the deal....it is so competent, that it is somewhat dull. I can do things in that car that were insanely difficult in my old 951, my 350Z, etc. The car is so good, that it makes it anti-climactic.

I have an 1983 911....this car isn't even in the same realm, never mind league as the Vette, but it is VASTLY more fun to drive. The limits are far lower, and its far more exciting when you approach them. The sounds, smells, and visceral feeling are without compare.

I use the Vette as a daily driver. I get great gas mileage, have all the modern acoutraments (sp?) and reliability of a new car. The 911 is reserved for fun blasts....

Now, the Vette has a cheap interior and, since it is my first Chevy I am concerned about reliability. I have owned it 18 months, 11k miles, and only had an oil change so far. So, so far so good. If only the interior wasnt made by Rubbermaid....

Sorry (and I'm not trying to be a dick) but, no-one looks at 944's here, either.

If nobody is looking that means the cops aren't looking either. Hmmm me in a bright yellow Vette which is driven like my 944 gets driven? I would be in prison in a week
