Gran Turismo 3 on Playstation - Next best thing to autocrossing
A friend bought a used PS2 from Goodwill to resell, but figured out it wasn't worth much more than he paid. Long story short it's now mine. Read some about driving games and everything pointed to GT3 as "the" game to get for PS2.
It's a blast to drive in the races, but I just found the Time Trials section. Wouldn't you know that one of the hardest time trial course involves driving a 911. Four wheels off and you're done and have to start over. Glad this thing showed up over Christmas break. I'd hate to tell all my clients I'm taking the next month off to go racing! Yeah... I'm way behind with technology, but for $40 this sure is a lot of fun! Here's a replay of someone else's trip through the course:

I need to find something like this at Goodwill. I hear now they have GT 5 out, so to me, GT 3 is brand new.

Yep... there are advantages to being a technology lagger. Don't know about where you live, but here you can buy a lot of PS2 stuff for the money on Craigslist. I paid $40 for GT3, 24 Hours of Lemans, Paris Dakar, with the steering wheel with pedals.

Try GT4 on PS2.
It's better. KT

I got GT3 when I was still in Elementary, I remember one of my friends had a brother that had pretty much beaten the game, we got his memory card and copied it to mine. Somewhere I have a card with all the licenses, and all the cars.

How's it better? The reviews I read said the games got more complicated as they progressed.

Thats fun and all, but taking the RUF cars out and racing them against the other cars is more fun I think. Its pretty sweet running a 1000 hp RWD Porsche, especially the Monaco endurance race. I need to get my act together and finish up the last 20%.

The graphics, sounds and overall rendering are better on GT4.
Let's put it this way, I have both. I haven't played GT3 in years. GT4, I played two days ago. I don't play any of the 'career modes'. KT

Cool... I'll have to look out for a copy. Biggest advantage to using old tech... games are cheap.
