Thumbs up For Rick Lee, and RUSH fans. . . .

Watch Rush try to play their own song on "Guitar Hero." Cool! And kinda funny.

Pretty good- I missed the original airing of that show -

Did colbert screw up when he tried to bring the show to commercial? Boy that's embarrassing.

Pretty cool. I saw the rest of that Colbert show last week, but missed this part.

I don't think it was a mistake. I read somewhere that they can't air more than 3:30 of a live song on a tv show and that why he had to cut it off. I don't understand it, but obviously, everyone in the U.S. and Canada knows that song and that it wasn't over when Colbert ran across the stage.

They should've done something else other than Tom Sawyer...That song has miles on it.

Yeah, they should have done side one of 2112 or Hemispheres instead. I did that stuff in bars with my band in college and, while a little self-indulgent, it was totally worthwhile for the few folks in the audience who got it.

I feel Leifson's pain. I've tried to do Guitar Hero to tunes that I know and fail miserably. It is totally counter to the real thing. It actually is easier to play songs that I've never heard before.

Exactly. First time I tried to play drums (been playing since I was seven) on Rock Band, I tossed the sticks about halfway. What a nightmare. You have to totally seperate the musician in you and remember it's a game.

Caught the show the night it ran, it was pretty cool. Tom Sawyer is the most recognizable song and Colbert and the band were being humorous on how long the song was. Good to see Neil with the band in an interview, that was RARE. He was in damn good spirits to, perhaps he's had his final closure on that tragic part of his life.

Check out Roadshow, it's a helluva read.

I've never seen Neil not come across as nice and outgoing in an interview. But he rarely does interviews and completely blows off his fans. He's downright hostile to them. I think he got into the wrong line of work for his personality type, but he's done real well for himself.

And it was noteworthy that Alex didn't say much (if anything). Typically he's pretty funny.

He appreciates his fans alot, but on his terms. He prefers to correspond with letters and has rarely left a returning address for someone who struck a chord with him. Most of the people whom he writes with regularly he become good friends with.

As for fans who are a bit more aggressive, he travels with the band's security chief on motorcyle when he's on tour. One time in 2004 a Russian fan with an armload of LPs got into his bus in Britain and Neil flipped out and pushed the guy down while dropping F-Bombs. As soon as his bus driver and security chief came in, he was picking up the LPs and apologizing for shoving the guy. Note that Neil is 6'4" and well built. Bet that Russian was more scared than Neil was.

I know the whole story. I've read Neil's books, I've met him and I've talked with his security guard, Michael a few times. He was riding his GS around the parking lot at the VA Beach show I went to last year and I also rode there. At the Vegas show in May, Michael escorted Cathy Rich (Buddy's daughter) to the seat in front of me and said hello.

I've met Geddy and Alex a few times too and, while they may seem like the guys you want to have a beer with, Neil is the one who actually spills his guts in his books, while you never really know anything about Geddy and Alex outside of fan meet and greets. I'll give Neil that. He does tell a lot in his books. But anyone who has to use so much ink to explain why they blow off fans or are downright rude to them, well, they have issues. I've hung out with plenty of rock stars and none tried to run away from me or pretended to be someone else. Besides, it's not like Neil will ever get recognized by anyone on the street who's not a Rush fan. The guy looks like an everyday schmoe and he still acts like he has no private life.
