115 mph average on a stock car (safety, brake pads, springs, no speed limiter, open exhaust). Still, that is a production stock car.

Dang! That is really impressive.

There has been discussion of this on other boards. Hardly a 'stock ' car. The competition roll cage adds an immense amount of torsional rigidity, plus the 'stock' springs and shocks were upgraded, in other words, "before the attempt was made a car went around the track and mapped the surface to which all that data was then pumped into a computer and the springs and shocks set accordingly".
The old record was set in an old Rover. Wow! I think Subaru are clutching at straws here. The world's benchmark for performance cars is Nurburgring.

Where does it say "stock" car? It is a Us spec production based car. Big difference.

"British Rally Champion Mark Higgins drove a standard showroom Subaru WRX STI saloon around the world-famous Isle of Man TT circuit in 19min 56.7sec – more than two minutes faster than the previous lap record."

"The previous lap record was set by another British rally legend, the late Tony Pond, in a standard Rover 827 Vitesse. The first lap to break the average 100mph barrier, Pond’s record has stood since 1990."

That's hilarious that they are excited about beating a car with twenty less years technology and front wheel drive and about 150HP less. You could probably beat the old time in Honda Jazz.

I think this more impressive. Quicker than a BMW 1 series M and Cayman S. No roll cage or suspension mods.

Renault Megane beats its own Nurburgring record
