Not a scooter, but I rode an old Honda 50 to the squadron in the '80's from my hootch in Coronado to the hangar at NAS North Island.

I have never, ever given two thoughts on what people think of my ride. My other two cars at that time were a '58 Willys and a '68 912.

The Willys looked like this only a LOT worse.

Enjoy the scooter. I would.

Cool ride, Jack!

Ha! You don't know that I was a light armored recon Marine, so we were supposed to run away from the enemy. I can't run very fast on that scoot.

Mark, I'll give you a call tomorrow and hopefully see you in D tuesday. After we're done with the customers we'll be going out, if you're willing and won't tell stories on us to your co-workers...

For god's sake, don't open the exhaust up and wake a baby...

Nice knowing you.;)

I'd love the MPG, and they're fun to ride, but I'm too big of a sissy. I like steel seperating me from the other nuts out there.

Cool

I have a Gilera Runner SP180 - faster to 60 than my 911. Twist-n-go is good fun.

Very cool. A friend as a new vespa twist 'n go and she showed me how it works last night. I must have looked like the idiot with my mouth hanging open, "you just twist and it goes?"

I'm positive that I would prefer the 4 speed but equally positive that the TaG is far easier to learn. 0-60 time on the Stella is not great, although you can shift a mite faster than you can with a 915...

I ride either my Tomos 49cc Arrow to work or my 1909 Harley Davidson every day. I only work 1 mile from home. Woo-Hoo!

Are scooters safer then motorcycles?

I think that is partly a decision you make in how you approach riding either and what you wear to go out. I wear the same gear on both and my experience leads me to believe that scooters are safer - so much more manouverable.

But neither is as safe as staying in bed ;)

ride a '66 Honda 50 to work now and then. IMO changing your habits based on the opinion of others makes a man a wuss. worse than a wuss even.

the downside is at maybe 3 or 4 miles round trip i don't really save on gas.

It most of the bike wrecks occur on cornering, then I'd say no. This data point came from my msf course instructor, who was formerly a cop.

I think it's more the driver than the vehicle and yet there's no question that you can't go 100+mph on a scoot, get a flat, and die.

There was another thread on OT on this topic. The scooter companies promote chicks in heels and 0 safety gear in the slicks.

Do they make drag pipes for that??

Z-man 08-05-2008 06:10 AM

I dare ya to show up with that scooter in full riding gear at the local waterin' hole when the Harley boys are there...

Seriously - looks like fun! Not sure if I would be able to survive a day's worth of commuting here in North Jersey though...

Oh stop it Z! Wheres your sense of adventure? That would be perfect for the truck lanes on the Turnpike!
