Help me sell my Volvo P1800

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to sell my all-original "survivor" 63 P1800"S" that has an interesting tie to the 12 Hours of Sebring. The car presently is complete, running, and has about 35k two owner (including me) miles. Original down to the spare tire, tool kit, and spark plug wires.

Price is $10k firm. Would take a 911 engine as a straight up or partial trade. If a pelican helps me find a buyer I will buy that person a nice fat pelican gift certificate.

The car is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am willing to assist in its shipment and will pay the first $500 of any shipping bill. Presently, cross-country on DAS open trailer is only about $550-600, so that makes shipping almost free.

Sebring history-need a lil' help

It will come with a bunch of spare parts. In addition to all five factory date-coded wheels, I have a seperate set of four wheels that have factory Volvo centers and widened barrels to accept (more) modern tire sizes. I have the original tool kit, jack and related jacking tools, the spare wheel with the original Cinturato tire (and related Pirelli brochure), the factory shop manual, warranty book, owner's manual, etc. It also will come with a collection of odds and ends (lenses, generators, a spare decklid, brake parts, etc.) that go with the car. It is surprisingly complete.

The path I would take if I were going to keep it is something like the resurrected Art Riley Sebring racecar:

Joe, we discussed this very car some years ago I recall. I'm open to interesting trades - especially a suitable engine for my engineless 914-6 conversion - if you don't want to expand the garage!

Oh man! I have a 3.0 that is not being used at the moment...but I don't know where I would put this thing. I have always loved the P1800.

Dave, sweet looking P1800, a real creampuff.

I particularly like the side chrome that follows the line on the fender, I never liked the newer ones with the chrome just going straight. I think they did that modern change in 65.

I sold my P1800S yrs ago, I picked mine up just out of Atlanta, GA it had some bondo on it but the 5 yrs I owned it, had alot of fun in it. Then I sold it for 4K, about 1984, the value was in the chrome following the fender line, kinda rare back then and I am sure alot more rare now.

There definitely are not a lot of pre'65's out there, especially not trading hands. Sorta like the difference between Pre-A 356's and the rest of them, but on a different economic scale. Oddly, the P1800 was a market competitor of the 356 when new.

The P1800 has lots of neato features for its day. Consider, in '61, it had disk brakes, an oil cooler, shoulder restraints, an electric overdrive on a four speed syncro gearbox with great feel, and those great lines. It even has a truly sufficient heating and ventilation system. The B18/B20 engine is legendary. Five main bearings on a 1.8 liter engine. Race trim versions for vintage racecars are 200hp engines, stuffed into a small tight chassis.

Also, there was a "Cobra-esque" deal in the works for a Shelby-Ford powered P1800 that, at the last minute, Volvo killed for not fitting their "safety" image.

Perhaps if it's attached to a nice 2.5-2.8ltr motor!
