What kind of tree is this?

I loathe this tree and what makes it better is that I have four of them in my front yard. I used to have 5 but one fell on my house:D They are about 70-90 ft tall and my wife wants them gone and I can't argue as they don't look too healthy and we may not be on vacation the next time one decides to use my home as a pillow.

Here is the leaf set, a broad leaf and a narrow leaf with 1-3 seedlets(which the trees drop by the millions). What is it?

Thanks, I believe it's actually an American Linden or Basswood. Thanks!

Larch?

As long as you are not planning on eating it then who cares.

I say take em out before they get you.

Some trees are valuable and I don't want to get taken by a tree service.

Makes sense.

Good money in mature trees.

Hope they turn into something profitable rather than a nuisance.

You deserve a break.

Lumber mills here are semi reluctant to take valley floor logs...worried about nails.
Dunno much about Linden wood tho...does it have a use in furniture making?

Yea, I have some very tall hardwoods in the back that I was offered $1,200 a piece for. These however are softwood.

I'm hoping I can work out a trade with a tree service in giving them a couple they want to take the ones I don't.

It appears to be good for cheap furniture and apparently guitars?

pwd72s 08-04-2008 08:54 AM

definitely worth looking into. I once got a few hundred for an old Black Walnut tree....it's probably now a few rifle stocks...

call MSU and get ahold of the county Agric. Ext. Agent office - they can ID the tree; tell you how to treat it if sick; what the wood is good for etc.

your tax bucks at work

Yeah, if they're not local, they may be stumped.

I'm sure that as soon as they get some poor sap on the phone, they will want to turn over a new leaf.

carnutzzz 08-04-2008 11:44 AM

I tried calling the local agricultural office and after being passed around from desk to desk I realized I was barking up the wrong tree.
