Not another motorcycle post...... next bike?
Some of you have seen my post on my CB400f purchase. Shaun and I've gotten bit by a similar bug and now I want something bigger and more modern. I'm doing more freeway riding and this bike is lot's of fun but there is no wind protection, etc. and I'd like more modern brakes and suspension, blah, blah.... I can get my money easily back out of the CB.
So, I'm looking at used Honda's although a guy wants to trade me a high mileage 94 Ducati 900SS for it. Right now the Duc is off the table, I need an easier in the stop and go traffic bike and I understand the Duc is not a lot of fun in traffic. I'm looking at older VFR's and maybe CBRF4 and F4i's as a replacement for the old Honda. Any thoughts on these two??? http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/mcy/776726389.html http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mcy/779510985.html Other suggestions? Thanks!

being poor sucks. so i have limited options. i'm saving up for a second R1100S. they're the best bargain out there right now in big R bikes.
i want an R1200GS. if the freeways collapse and the zombies come, it's the bike to have. vfrs have a great reputation. but i have noticed there's a cut off around ten fifteen years old where dealerships no longer want to work on bikes.

Bought a 96 vfr for my son about 2 months ago, and I gotta say that the hype is deserved. It does everything well, nothing blows you away, but it is so all around competent. If I could only have one bike, it'd likely be a candidate. The gear camdrive bikes sound like a Ferrari, to boot.

If you ever think you will get the track bug, the F4i is a very competent, forgiving bike to learn knee dragging skills on.

I have a 94vfr and really like it. For me it's 100% appliance. It does everything I ask of it with no gripes. It doesn't sound like a Duc but it's comfy, has tons of power (at least to me) and I think it looks cool. It's a bigger big than a cbr, more comfy to me.
Part of me wants to get a 900SS or an ST2, but I really dont want to get rid of the vfr. |

I'm quite happy with my Yamaha FZ1, which I paid $5K for last December with 6K miles on it. It's an '03 with pretty good ergonomics, gets high 40's for mileage, and is bulletproof mechanically. It's also scarry fast (141 hp at the crank), but I use it for commuting mostly. I don't think many people are familiar with them, so there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand which may mean prices haven't gone too high like some others.

That's exactly why I have one. I just need to rig up a good mount for my rifle before that happens.

Those are great bikes. A VFR would be a good bike for you though.

I will try and get out this weekend to look at a few CBR's and VFR's in my price range. The yellow VFR looks nice but I'm playing phone tag with the owner.
Thought I had the CB400f sold yesterday but the guy backed out. Now I think I'll hold onto it until it's replaced and then decide what to do.

FJ1100/1200 are great bikes, but really heavy by todays standards. Loved mine, but its not a newbie bike. Too much weight and power.

When the zombies come I'll do split duty between my Polaris Sportsman and my Honda dirt bike. If somethign breaks on either one of those, I can fix it with some bailing wire and a zip tie. The GS is a sweet bike, I had an 1150, but to dang complicated.
Ok back on topic, I like the VFR's, and have heard great things about them. |
