Anyone experienced with older Q45's?
I'm eyeballing a '92 cream-puff, low miles, just for driving when I don't want to take the other 2. Maybe 5k miles a year.
My dad had an early one and it was a pretty sweet ride in it's day. 278 hp v8. |
Had a 93, great car! If I recall correctly, there may have been transmission issues on 92's.

Friend has a '92. Has over 150k miles on it. Great car.

Fast car, horrible maintenance and depreciation.
|
Mine was bullet proof.

Fun cars, I still remember driving one with my buddy. Nothing better than power braking in a cloud of smoke in your leather lined luxury sedan. I considered one a while back, they have a few issues but nothing like a comparable German car.
Good info here:http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/213450 |
I had a 1991 Q45a. It was a blast to drive. The 'a' suspention was a fully active suspention system that did wonders...until it broke...
In the three years I had it, I lost the tranny, the suspention, the AC unit and the radio. All of this was covered under warranty, but the paperwork that I saw showed over $20K in work. Not sure how Nissan makes money like this. |
They dropped the a for that reason. The trans had issues that were corrected. I spent $300 in 3 yrs on mine. Most fun, stab the gas at 70. Kick to 3rd puts it on the lower middle of the power band, winds to 105 or so, shifts hard to high, the engine falls to the middle of the power band & continues to pull HARD. Impressive.

I don't believe this one is an 'a'- if it is I'll avoid it.
I'm reading about plastic chain guides that MUST be replaced with metal if they haven't already? The guys on the board say don't drive it until it's done. This issue was corrected by '94 I think. Should I walk from this car if owner can't provide proof of this service? It's allegedly a $1,200-$2000 preventive maintenance item. Yeah- my dad had a new '90 or '91 right when I turned 16. I used to light up the rear tires at will. I used to love driving that car, and thought the power was awesome. I just don't know if it will still wow me today. There's no going home right? |
Going to look at the car today- if anyone else has advice please chime in.
One amazing thing I discovered is how interchangeable Nissan wheels are. Seems you can can run more modern wheels from 350z's, G35's, etc. -so that certainly makes things a little easier since take-offs are so readily available. |
