Pick Up my A3 Tomorrow

I ordered a Bushmaster AR15 A3. It finally arrives at the FFL tomorrow.

I'll probably take it to the range Friday morning.

Eventually I want to put a scope on it. Any recomendations?

There was a scope in the "Dope Bag" section of American Rifleman a few months ago that caught my eye. It was some kind of low-light scope (but not nightvision) and was around $300. I unfortunately have tossed the issue and they don't list back information on their website.

m21sniper 08-06-2008 12:07 PM

Nice. Awesome weapon, best of luck with it brother.

Rick Lee 08-06-2008 12:11 PM

I bought the Millet Zoom Dot, which I saw reviewed in the American Rifleman. It's a great little scope, but does not have magnification. There is a HUGE market out there for fake EOtechs and Aimpoints. It's just ridiculous. If you want a decent scope, it's gonna cost you. I'd spend your money stockpiling .223 and worry about tricking out the rifle later. You can always do that. But .223 is getting crazy expensive and ain't gonna be any easier to get if Obama gets elected. I'm trying to get to 10k rds. before the election.

legion 08-06-2008 12:21 PM

I've stockpiled all of the .223 my ammo locker can handle and now all of my safes are full. (And what I have will last me years after reloads.)

I literally need to buy a new house to make room for anything more...

When I read that you are getting your A3 tomorrow, I thought Cesiro was going to have a heart attack....

911boost 08-06-2008 01:08 PM

Nice.

I love my AR, its a Varmit version, so I have a different type of scope on it than what you are looking for.

I thought you were talking about an Audi and my wife still hasn't made her mind up so I thought here would be some good info.

Ooops.

porsche4life 08-06-2008 01:51 PM

^^^ He said Audi. I'm waiting for Jim's Response. :D

I didn't think of that when I posted the title.

I hope Jim forgives me, I didn't want to stoke the fire.

Colts are so ridiculously overpriced that they're not even a good bargain with a LEO discount. You can find better guns with more mods on them all day long for less than a bare bones Colt M4 runs. A lot of folks build them from scratch and just add mods as they have money. You can get lower receivers for $100 anywhere. As with track cars, it's usually cheapest to buy a complete rifle that someone else has already tricked out. There are some amazing ones out there on www.ar15.com and www.arizonashooting.com for very good prices.

Congrats Chris, I love my "Rock River Arms" AR15. FWIW, they are fun to plink with and blast varmints with even with the iron sights.

Congrats! I bought my Colt AR15 Sporter II in .223 earlier this year and I haven't even fired it yet. I'll probably start going to the local indoor pistol/rifle range again the fall after driving season. I'm looking for good, cheap ammo, but it's slim pickings...

Art, next time you go to Tab Tanner's shop bring the AR and give me a call on the return trip. We can blast off some rounds at my place on you're way home.

azasadny 08-06-2008 04:50 PM

Tim,
Thanks, that's a deal! I may be visiting Tab soon since my speedometer died again...

rattlsnak 08-06-2008 07:07 PM

How about a Century model?
And I see everyone seems to use different barrel lengths. 16", 18" or 20" ? They have a nice used one (Century) at the local shop but it has a non replaceable 20" barrel. Not sure Ill be shooting at anything more than 300 yards away!

Thoughts?

legion 08-07-2008 05:53 PM

Got it!

sweet! :)

many944s 08-07-2008 06:07 PM

Nice :)
I'm sure I'll have a "few" scoped weapons on hand next weekend. You can check em out and see if you prefer any of them over the others first hand.

Now I just need to get one of these:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218162061.gif

(I also need to get a bigger gun safe...)

Rick Lee 08-07-2008 09:59 PM

Legion, your gun needs some mods - collapsable butt stock, Ergo grip, a rail system, tac light and some optics. But you have a good platform there.

azasadny 08-08-2008 03:13 AM

Nice!

legion 08-08-2008 09:49 AM

Wow...what fun!

I put 20 rounds through it this morning (had to cut it short to meet some friends for lunch). I was getting it on paper from 100 yards.

I didn't think I'd like the open sights, but they are adjustable for windage and elevation, so I think I may just keep them.

Rick, this one I'll keep stock. I like it how it is. I may pick up a lower at the next gun show though. ;)

I agree. The look of a stock one is the main reason I want one. No offense Rick, but yours, although highly functional I agree, is just simply not pretty.

911boost 08-08-2008 09:18 PM

Glad you like it. Here is my RRA, I ws just testing the fit of parts, I have since mounted the scope straight to the flat top receever so the scope sits closer to the barrell.

I can't imagine buying one of these rifles for the cosmetic look. My mods are all functional stuff that make it easier to use in different situations. Nothing at all wrong with keeping them stock, if it's only ever gonna be a range plinker.

I added a collaspible stock to mine just for the heck of it, but a stock "old school"20" barreled, solid stocked, plain Jane M16 of vietnam vintage seemed plenty functional 20 yrs ago in the army.

Out to 300m a scope is really not necessary on an A2 or later. The iron sights are THAT good.

Rick Lee 08-09-2008 03:33 PM

I just picked up a Remington model 700 in 30-06 with a phat Bushnell scope today at the Tucson gun show. Can't wait to try her out.

legion 08-22-2008 02:05 PM

Hey, what lubricant should I be using on this. I cleaned it after two range excursions and used Rem Oil, but that seems thinner than the lubricant that came on it.

BeyGon 08-22-2008 02:12 PM

Is this the thread about the Audi?

Dave L 08-22-2008 03:06 PM

oh good, I wasnt the only one thinking that legion bought a small wagon.

Are you kidding!?

Between Jim and Tim, they make my 951 look cheap to run and easy to repair.
