Things to do in Phoenix Arizona

We are taking the kids to Phoenix / Scottsdale for a week and a half, we traded out our timeshare from Atlantis and we were able to trade 7 days in Atlantis for 12 in Phoenix.

We are already planning 2 days at the Grand Canyon. What else is cool to do, we are open to anything.

The kids are 15 and 5 so that may limit us.

Also, I will be in town from Aug 1-12 if anyone wants to meet up for a drink one night I am staying at the Westin Kierland Resort.

We were in Palm Springs 3 years ago at the end of June, daytime highs were in the 107-112 range and we went hiking in Indian Canyon in it, I was carrying my 5 y/o (then 2) in a backpack. We liked it a lot there the heat was not bothering us at all.

We love hot and hate cold. I am not even worried about it.

Let us know exactly when and where you'll be here. If you really can handle the heat, I'd suggest renting a jeep or some kind of 4x4 and going offroading in Sonoran Nat. Monunment. It's amazing. But it will be hot like you've never seen. I was in Death Valley for July 4th and that's what it feels like here when you're in direct sunlight. Shade isn't much better. Anything south of Prescott will be scorching hot. There and north should be comfortable.

I am staying at the Westin Kierland Resort in a timeshare condo pretty much the entire time except when we go to the Grand Canyon then we are thinking of staying a night near there I am open for suggestions for Grand Canyon Lodging for 1 night as well.

Drive up to Flagstaff. Cruise over to Prescott. Neat towns and both are nice and cool in the summer.

When you go to the Grand Canyon, you'll be passing withing a mile of my house and Charles Kieffner is just about five miles farther east. We should grab a meal.

Definitely take a day trip to Sedona. It is a nice change from anything else you've probably seen. Plan on going up to Prescott on a Saturday afternoon. You can catch the weekend gathering at the square (old style courthouse in the middle of town) and then hit Whiskey Row for the evening with excellent restaurants. Good eats would be Murphy's, Gurley Street Grill, Prescott Brewery, all within walking distance from the courthouse. Be carefule, you may like Arizona.

We love hot and hate cold. I am not even worried about it.

then you have found da MECCA OF CALIENTE! since being a native you acclimate to yer environment. when we split in da summer to colorado/utah upper elevations i freeze my butt off while all the locals are wearing swimsuits. i cant handle the cold but for a short time.

figure unleaded gas at about 4.07 a gallon. more in flagstaff. get a cheap ass rice rocket rental car and enjoy the hell outta the state. bring a ice chest full of water/beer and life will be good. radar detector will help also. anything over 85mph and off to jail you go.

DO NOT MISS FRED FLINTSTONE LAND AT VALLE AZ. !!!!!! on da grand canyon highway. cool warbird aeropuerto museum there also. and you have da grand canyon CHOO CHOO from williams az(I-40) to the south rim. wayyyyyyyyyy cool. along with verde valley railroad thats wayyyyy cool! can hike down canyon to indian springs and back to south rim in a day. or take the burros!

august huh???? hahahahahahahahaha silly goose! now you will have 110 degrees ******* faren freeking heit temps and yer floridian favorite HUMIDITY!!!!!!!!!

yep monsoon season roughly starts july 4th weekend(historically) 3 days of 55 degree dewpoint or above and its official as per u.s. weather service.

this makes for big giggles and tremendous opportunity for lots of INSANE FREEKING WEATHER ACTION with thunderboomers/micro-macro bursts happening around 3pm and after. you will see first hand how florida and arizona are tied for 1st place when it comes to lightning strikes!!!

street flooding

washes running

stupid motorists in humvees/beemers getting washed downstream

electrical outages

telephone poles knocked down

car crashes/semi crashes

dust storms(haboobs)

cicadids(bugs)

and all sorts of other entertaining weather related thangs happening!

colorado river toads come out(lick 'em and get HIGH!)

all trout streams stocked will cease when waters get to 72 degrees F.

lots of bats.

yep you'll have a hell of a time!

with the way things are going at work(lots of) and my home(2 story) prepping stucco for paint(alot) i will be lucky to get outta here to cooler climes this summer for any length of time. therefore survival instinct comes into play.

a/c on house.

a/c on vehicles(all)

pool

swimming pool

BEER! repeat last three over and over and over and over!

Chuck, where do you mount the evaporator on the Husky?

I hit the valley for a day a couple weeks back, saw the boyz at 20th street auto before it got hot then got the hell outta dodge before we saw 90F.

I had to ride my bike to DMV yesterday and I can't bring myself to go on the hwy. without full riding gear. That was tough yesterday. I'm dreading the long wait in the emissions testing line with the 993 and I need to do it this week. Peak heat of the day is around 4:30 pm and it's particularly tought to ride my bike home from the gym, heading due west into the sun then. Man, that's some heat. Being on the bike has no cooling effect whatsoever above 100-105 deg. It just feels like a blow dryer on high heat.

When you pack to fly you will not need more than 1 bag for the entire family. A T-shirt is your formal attire and a couple of swimming suits.
Our airport does use the full body scan x-ray machine.

Just like in FL, you will be able to get the 4 to 6 PM. early meal discounts.

The DUI laws are tough with required stay at "Tent City" and wearing Pink underwear and Pink handcuffs. They sleep on cots-bare ground. Sheriff Joe knows his stuff.

If you and your family have enjoyed the first episodes of "SwingTown" on TV, you can go to Shangri La Resort just north of Phoenix and enjoy a clothing-optional day or two.
"Shangri La Ranch is building one of the finest clothing-optional, family-oriented, year round recreational facilities in the Western United States. We emphasize the freedom of choice. You select the activity that suits you - from quiet relaxation to recreation. We hope you will visit us soon!"
http://www.shangrilaranch.com/brochure.html

Many UK and German visitors with pasty white legs enjoy the area.

Welcome and enjoy tequila jello shots.

heres the "native" intellect when it comes to dirty bike riding in da summer heat.

1) everything you can imagine is done EARLY AM! wanna ride we leave at 5-6AM!

we do NOT ride to an area WITHOUT WATER OR A RANCH! (stocktanks)

2) fill backpack w/waterand beer. fill backpack with ICE!

3) jet 2 strokes WAYYY FATT on TOP END!

4) 4-strokes WAYY FATT on TOP END!

5) place all riding gear on. leathers, shoulder pads helmet boots on. fire bike up let idle. check oil/fuel fill as needed. clean hands. finish off cold beer in cold cup.

6) jump in pool with all gear on! no pool??? take garden hose and douche yerself from head to toe!

7) get on bike and ride like hell to area with water or stock tank.

8) arrive(verde river 22 miles from my house). find shade for you and bike.

9) sit in verde river with all gear on minus helmet and drink water/beer

10) smoke 'em if ya got'em

11) enjoy nature.

12) enjoy life.

13) tell tall tales and trapper dan stories(lie alot)

14) drink all water/beer

15) soak helmet in river and entire body.

16) fire bike up! RIDE LIKE HELL! do wheelies and other stupid stunts whilst not crashing.

17) arrive back home completely bone dry including boots and jump into pool and drink rest of beer!

18) PASS OUT!

or slap bikes/quads into truck trailer and get the HELL OUTTA DODGE and seek higher elevation. crown king az. is closest to my house.PINE TREES/BAR/MINES(shade)/WATER

we do not ride anywhere in the summer with out a BAR/STOCKTANK/RIVER or STREAM at the end of the one way trip! always leave ice chest in truck when you get back you have melted ice water and beer for the load up back to home!

DO IT ANY OTHER WAYY.........................YER GONNA DIE AND THE BUZZARDO'S WILL EAT YER EYEBALLS FIRST!!!! hahahahahaha

guess what i did friday/sat/sunday??????

stucco patched my 2 story house as far as a 10 ft ladder would reach.

1) slap stucco patch on with one hand. other hand death grip on miller lite. slam miller lites repeat. slap stucco patch on repeat. sweat in glasses walk to pool fall in. inhale more miller lights.

2) slap more stucco on. drink more beer sweat more. fall in pool repeat

3) end result. 7 pails of stucco patch applied 18 pak wiped out. SUNBURN AS HELL!

milked last paint job 14 years with good old dunn edwards travertine(tan) paint. trying to beat monsoon season and get paint done.

god ya gotta love being a cheap ass like i am! famous last words........"OH HELL I CAN DO DAT!"

miller lites(18) on sale at safeway grocery store and circle k 12.99!

heat kills and when the sweat starts dripping on my glasses its time for another cold juan and a dip in the pool with my worthless goofier than pool wolf/weimereiner!!!!
