Police Tracking Suspects With G.P.S
The police are using inexpensive GPS devices to track suspects. Not a bad idea except this is done without a warrant or court supervision. It seems to me that this is crossing the line into areas that can easily be abused.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/12/AR2008081203275.html So, does this freedom go both ways? If I covertly place a GPS tracker on a police to determine how my tax dollars are spent...time at a Dunkin' Donuts, stopping by the house, finding a spot to take a nap, what law am I breaking?

Example cited shows they caught a suspect in the act of abducting a woman and dragging her into the woods. Most law abiding citizens would support that kind of police work.
On the issue of a warrant being required, laws vary from state to state. Police in my state would need a warrant to put a GPS on a citizens car, but not a bait car owned by the agency. If you want to track the police, many agencies have had GPS in their cars for a lot of years now. You can obtain the information your interested in by filing a "public disclosure" request......
