False Fireworks?

Copied from Foxnews

False Impressions
And finally, Chinese officials admit to deceiving the world over some of the highlights at Friday's Olympic opening ceremony.
The London Telegraph reports the nine-year-old girl who was seen singing as the Chinese flag entered the stadium was in fact lip-syncing. Lin Miaoke became an overnight sensation in Beijing, but the ceremony's musical director says the real singer was a seven-year-old girl, Yang Peiyi, who was given the singing spot after a 10-year-old winner of a nation-wide competition was told she was too old. At the last minute, a member of the Chinese Politburo determined Yang Peiyi was unsuitable to be shown on the broadcast because of her buck teeth.

Chinese officials have already admitted that some of the video images of the massive fireworks display at the opening ceremony were actually pre-recorded, digitally enhanced and inserted into the broadcast.

Hmmmmmm. Makes you wonder...

What they are referring to is the "footprints" segment. That was CGI, and done because they wanted to get a good visual "shot" for TV. The fireworks did go off choreographed as designed/planned. But the tv feed was CGI. That was alluded to in the broadcast.

I thought this thread was about fake orgasms. Oh well..

I'm just suprised everything hasn't broken the first time it's been used.

nostatic 08-12-2008 08:03 PM

island911 08-12-2008 08:17 PM

geeeezzzz . . .Fireworks!? ...They are Chinese!! Faking the one thing they do well.... (I thought the fireworks looked a bit too synchronized.)

The announcers clearly stated that as the image was being shown, I don't know why suddenly everyone is up in arms about this...they never hid it at all.

Costas: "This is quite literally cinema"

Yeah, nobody else broadcasting on TV uses CGI, not movies, not TV shows, not weather casters, nobody.

Mabye they could give their skater's routine another axle with a half twist flip for the re-broadcast. When she gets a 8.7 by the judges, the party leaders can cry "Western manipulation" foul.

Media manipulation. Thought control. Herding the masses.
We have learned a lot from the Chinese.

jeffgrant 08-13-2008 04:10 AM

Should we talk about how NBC edited the opening ceremonies to have the US walk in much later in the order than they actually did?

The whole opening ceremonies is A PRODUCTION... it makes no sense to me how people can get upset because some of the elements are theatrics.

island911 08-13-2008 08:30 AM

Fireworks are theatrics. ....Fake fireworks, from the inventors of fireworks, is just pathetic.

id10t 08-13-2008 08:39 AM

The TV fireworks were faked 'cause it was a safety issue of getting a 'copter up there w/ camera while the big boom booms were going off...

nostatic 08-13-2008 08:41 AM

It also was pretty evident when watching the footage that it was CGI given the camera placements and movement.

But we wouldn't want the viewer to actually think and engage...

It was a very cool sequence. The level of detail was quite amazing. Evidently they simulated the correct amount of smog :p . Plus you can see the neon signs animated as well.

island911 08-13-2008 08:43 AM

Chopper- Yes, I've heard that reason too. --Lame. Fireworks can be controlled enough ... A few weeks ago we had a plane fly around (as part of a FW show) with fireworks coming off the plane.

dd74 08-13-2008 09:19 AM

It's all an agenda for China. I don't feel surprised by anything they do, unless it's out-and-out cheating during the competitions, and even then...
