Or John Cameron Swayze. Wasn't he who coined "...the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat..."?

Roon Atledge- Wide World of Sports.

I thought Jim McKay was pretty good, got a little excited and emotional at times but better than Costas. The one I really can't stand to this day is Dick "Butthole" Button for figure skating, God, give me a break.

Bring back the days of Curt Gowdy, Chris Schenkel, Keith Jackson, Jim Mckay and Howard.

If you like sports, you may as well learn to tolerate Costas. He is the go-to sports guy that gets the important venues, the exclusive interviews, the HBO specials, etc etc.

His job isn't easy and I'm not defending him, but there aren't very many sportscasters that are outstanding in all facets of sport. We've been lucky with sportcasters in LA having Hearn, Scully, Enberg, but these guys only had to deal with mostly one sport and it's easy to find fault when comparing to these guys.

Other than perhaps Al Michaels or Jim Nantz, I'm not sure who could carry the olympics as a sportscaster. It must a daunting task to put it out there for billions of critics.

bob is even more unbearable on HDTV.

I'm sure Fox would gladly trot out Joe Buck.

You guys want Keith Olberman?

m21sniper 08-13-2008 01:20 PM

Harry Kalas would have been epic.

BGCarrera32 08-13-2008 01:32 PM

Bob Costas drives an Audi and it's Bush's fault.

Please, not Michaels. He's also unbearable. Remember when he got on the Channel 7 news to try and talk O.J. out of his low-speed chase? Michaels has basked in it ever since.

That's why they make millions of dollars a year. These guys are paid well for their...um...efforts.

Bob Costas hair coloring would not even pass on a black and white TV! Kudos to his hairdresser for f"ing up his color job, heshe must not like him too much either. :)

To me, Costas appears to be on the verge of tears at any moment. What sealed the deal for me not liking the guy is when he referred to the Tour de France to watching guys exercise (saw that clip on a late night talk show, I think some time after Armstrong won his last tour). Too bad Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwyn and Bob Roll don't cover all sports.

lendaddy 08-14-2008 05:54 PM

Costas makes Daddy's head hurt but that Carillo chick just needs a boot to the teeth.

Who green-lights this stuff?

widgeon13 08-14-2008 06:05 PM

When is the last time Carillo was in front of a camera, isn't there someone better than her??

Hummer and Sherwyn did the Olympic road races. I think Hummer also did the commentary on the Olympic white water rafting.

But you're right: Liggett and Roll would bring Olympic commentary up several notches. It was so cool during The Tour when Roll did part of his commentary an Italian. Yeah, he looks like a caveman, but is damn intelligent.

Those both blind and deaf.

URY914 08-15-2008 04:55 AM

Carillo scares me. I really can't watch her/him.

rammstein 08-15-2008 05:41 AM

The guys from top gear should commentate.

strupgolf 08-16-2008 06:49 PM

Is there anything else on except beach volleyball? When did this sport become the ONLY thing on TV. The announcer said today that the german team would lose a member next year and the remaining guy would "be playing with himself next year". Good one for the bloopers show soon.
