That bike is stunning. I'd be loathe to ride it in SoCal though...

I would have no problem riding that in L.A., I've owned several like it. (/5 or /6). That said, it's more of an around-town bike than a long-distance cruiser, especially if it's a 4-speed. The drum brakes work sufficiently well, you do not ride this bike in such a fashion to boil the brakes. They have decent stopping power.

It's a beauty, $6k seems high but then I'm not up on pricing these days for /5s. Is that what they're going for? I bought one, (R75/5), in MN. in the mid-90s for $1300 in close to showroom condition. It was a steal, granted, I sold it for double that after riding it all summer. Probably should have kept it, but that's life...

Would love to own one also. Missed out on another nice 72 that was cafe'd (with all original parts included). Listed on BMW MOA site for $4k if I recall. Bike was perfect, but was in CA also (a long boat ride to Georgia). Even at that, it would have been a stretch for such an indulgence.

Wouldn't ask you to drop your price in half, I'm sure there's someone in your neck of the woods that would/could pay more. Very nice bike....would love to own it. Still watching for that forgotten garage queen hidden away right here in town.

Wow, that is a gorgeous bike! Sorry to see you are selling it. I'd consider putting it in your living room if you have the space.

What a beauty! Sorry to hear you are having to sell it. Best of luck with those aging bones. I'm a big fan of physical therapy as a way to combat (in my case broken shoulder bones) and stave off surgery. Bike riding has helped my knees but then also lead to the broken bones....... Oh well, All the best!

Very nice specimen; you should get most of what you're asking. I'd like to take it off your hands, but the trans-continental thing is a PITA (and I've allocated the next toy money splurge to an MH900e).

I hope it finds a worthy home.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I hate to have to sell it and it would look nice in the Living Room I suppose. Perhaps it is priced a bit high but has a bunch of extras and with two easily interchangeable tanks I think it might sell for mid 5's.

The drum brakes do better than I would have thought too and the four speed is geared well enough. It is a better around town bike than long distance but younger guys have done long rides. I just hope to find a loving home for it and not have it turned into a cafe racer...although I like the looks of them too. This is just too much an un-molested classic to do that.

FWIW, I've used U-ship.com a time or two. Easy to get bids and there are a few companies who specialize in motorcycle shipping. The extra stuff that comes with I could use UPS.

The PO had just the LR tank. I found a NOS tank at a local BMW dealer and did all the work to clean out any rust and recoat. Then found the right chrome panels (in great shape), had it painted the correct color and it matches perfectly. All other paint is original. Both tanks have gas cap and petcocks so can be changed in about 15 min.

I do, however, put some leaded gas in it (a cup or two) every so often to keep the valves happy. Valves can be changed out to newer if you want...never did.

Love to have it go to a Pelican cuz I know we/they take good care of these toys.

I remember your enthusiasm for the toaster tanks, and this is a very sweet and tempting bike. However (1) the Moto Guzzi fills the "old school"/cafe niche and (2) I'm thinking about an all-Italian motorcycle stable, so the Ducati MH900e will fill the esoteric/exotic gap (cheaper and more comfortably than an MV Agusta F4). With the Aprilia and the Guzzi, it should make a nice garage. And the Duc is probably going to cost $10-12k, so it's that and nothing else right now!

Surely you can "hide" these few thousand dollars as a rounding error in your SWB project! You buy it, and I'll ride it back for you. (spits in, and then extends hand).

Yes, you are close. It's only about 135 miles from SF proper. Love to have her stay somewhat local and go to a Pelican.

You're in France !??

Well, not really sure just how old the tires are but I think the PO told me two years ago they were new. Current miles are about 44K...original miles, btw, and original speedo unit. Tires look wonderful and bike is always stored in a garage.
