Behavior And Brain Chemistry

Human behavior is limited to learned experience and or instincts (instinct is compounded experience over time). The reason for this is that it is the way the human brain is wired. Human behavior is basically a series of switches in the brain. A set of behavior is a learned experience from yesterday and no human can escape that reality. Human behavior and brain function is modified with every new experience. Until experience builds a new switching mechanism in the brain that changes thought and behavior patterns. Brain chemistry acts as the routing mechanism/catalyst where minute amounts of chemistry regulates and keeps the stem in balance. This change in switching can change brain chemistry over time......Genetics is basically like instincts, developed over time, to give a basic operating system. As a Mac is different from a PC, and each computer has different software applications. In actuality the computer is formulated from the basic or primitive way the brain works as it is from mans imagination it was developed, and what other structure can we apply but what we know already works.

Now when we add artificial chemistry to brain function to change behavior. we are merely changing the brain switching system and over time the brain will change and become dependent on that chemical to function in that mode.

You're certainly having MORE thoughts. That doesn't speak to the quality or clarity, though.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

What about a person like me who has OCD. I have an inherent problem with my brain that these "chemicals" fix; that being not enough serotonin. When I am not on my medicine my brain reverts back to its pre-medicated behavior. My brain is not dependent on the medication because I can quit taking it cold turkey whenever I feel like, and I will not be subjected to any kind of withdrawal. However, my personality and health are dependent on the medication unless I want to spend my days inside counting things and washing my hands until they bleed.

That is not the definition insanity...insanity is a detachment or seperation from reality....

No but your behavior is subject to reverting back because the chemistry is changing the routing of the switches back to what they once were.

are you sure?

Tabs, your brilliance of thought is inspiring. Many of the chemicals(read brain drugs) that I am familiar with do exactly that, and create a strong dependence that is very tough to break. Many are prescribed by psychiatrists and are lifesavers yet millstones later. However, these drugs have emptied the old state hospitals where many poor folks that were labeled as insane passed their miserable lives to the end. It put them back into society and benefits us all.

Realiance on drugs alone is a false hope. It takes thought and effort as well to change brain chemistry and thus behavior. I would say that some people are so naturally impaired that they will never be able to get off drugs.

Moses is a guy who needs to open the windows of his attic so that he can let some air in to blow out the stangant air and light to show him where the cobwebs are.
