"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

Love it.

I often compare those at work to those involved in a football game. You have the players who do the hard yards, sweat the blood and feel the result. You have the Coaches and Managers who work with them and advise them and whose jobs depend on how well their team performs

And you have the commentators, the ex players high in the stands who analyse the plays, critique the performance but at the end of the day have no skin in the game - they just make comments on how they would have done it better.

I have no time for commentators at work - they pop up all the time yet add nothing to the result. We all encounter them at meetings - the guys who will tell you all the ways it should be done but never take an action to step up with those doing the work.
