I'd rather have 1 gold than 5 silvers.

I like to assign 3 points to gold, 2 to silver, and 1 to bronze and see who has the most total points

I could care less about the medal counts these days... they're all about the $$$ and government support and corruption (16 yr old Chinese gymnasts? Yeah Right!)

I love the stories with the one guy training on his own that wins the bronze for the country that you've never heard of before.

To me, THAT'S the best medal count of all, and what the Olympics are about.

But maybe I'm just bitter after being rejected from the synchronized swimming team.

Anybody know when the Olympics broadcasts end? Might turn the TV back on then...

I'd like to see team sports eliminated entirely and just have individuals compete. No more soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey and fer goodness sakes freakin' team handball. How the heck did that get in there?

Individual efforts should be the prime Olympic endeavor.

Meh, probably not but yes Canada should/could do better. It's a long story.

However if you were to take the medal count per population you would have a different story. Obviously a country like the US with 10 times the budget and 10 times the population to pick athletes from will get more medals. It's common sense.

Ya, I know.

About the population thing. What Australia does is very impressive. They get a lot of medals for their size.

I don't understand why people don't like team competition? I've enjoyed watching the volleyball that's for sure. I'm sure somebody likes the baseball portion? I know I don't.

Meh... who cares about the Summer Olympics? It's not like we get summer way up here or anything... Just wait until the Winter Olympics, with the sports that really matter... like hockey, and curling, and, uhmmm.... curling.

But really, no sour grapes... medal counts don't matter to me. I'd just rather see a no-name underdog come in and win a single bronze than Phelps win a gazillion golds.

To me, that single bronze is worth so much more than all those golds.

Actually Russia has the UK beat. Either in total medals or your point system. Only 1 gold behind UK, anyways.

Question:
in teamsports like baseball, basketball, soccer etc if a team wins, does that count as one medal or do they count every team member who got a medal?

If they count them all, the US will kick butt as the US women's soccer, basketball, and men's basketball teams all win gold.

You can unwrap the medals and eat the chocolate inside. True story.

Wonka Medals.
