Nice Mexican resturant near USC (Los Angeles)?

I know... I know... They have Mexican food in Los Angeles? Do tell!

Anyway, a lady friend is meeting me after work tomorrow (across the street from USC) and we were going to grab some Margs. and Mexican food later.

My first thought was El Cholo on Western (yeah, that is what they call it) however my friend is half Mexican and some people think their food is a little gringo (great bar, although margs are a little $$$)

Second choice is La Barca on Vermont, good food, good prices, funky neighborhood.

I know some of you have or still hang out downtown so I thought I would check to see if anyone had some other suggestions.

Don't want to drive too far and a full bar is a must.

TIA

forget El Cholo - lousy food imho

Not too far from Downtown proper. I think they have a full bar:

Sounds like you've got it covered.
