A reel conspiricy

So, I needed a garden hose reel, went to Home Despot, and bought a "Suncast Hosemobile". Took it home, hooked it up, and the side attachment piece promptly popped off, spraying water everywhere. Hmmm. Look, reattach, retry, same thing. F'k.
O.k., that model is a piece of junk. Back to the store. Lady behind the return counter says that most of them get returned. I go look at what other brands Home Depot carries, and they are all Suncast- with that same crap fitting.

On to Lowes. Hmm, wait a minute here. They carry Suncast brand, and only Suncast brand.

Oh boy. Well, today we drive about 80miles (round trip) to Menards.
Suncast brand, and only Suncast brand in stock.

Let's try Meijers. Guess what? That's right.

K-Mart? Ohhhh, now I'mma gettin' really pissed now! WTF!!!
Probably $40-50 in gas wasted, and the choice I have in this modern capitalist global economy is ______?

Add Wal Mart to that list.

Maybe Sears? But I doubt it if K-mart has Suncast.

Also, try Ace Hardware--or if you're really lucky, a local independent.

Garage
http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1219551582/ref=sr_pg_1?ie=UTF8&rs=&keywords=Garden%20hose%20reel&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AGarden%20hose%20reel&page=1

If nothing else you can see what's available and get a few personal ratings on Amazon at the same time. Anything over $25 is free ship if sold by Amazon. As much as I hawk Amazon, you'd think I was getting a cut, but nooooo!

Like you were saying, the price of gas has removed the fun and efficiency of driving around looking for a good buy. Shipping charges are now usually cheaper than driving 25 miles each way to bring something home.

I want to buy the product instantly, with cash, in person, and anonymously.

I don't want to put my personal credit and life-history information on some special order list which will be submitted to an unknown retailing distribution network, to be reviewed at a later date of their choosing.

Welcome to 1972!

I want to find the best product available for the job, check local pricing, then go on the web to see if I can find it for (significantly) less. Then, I'll submit my CC #, my mailling address and my name/phone #. In 3 ~ 5 days, I have my item at a savings*.

And that web page will then charge your credit card for "reference charges", and submit a hit on your credit score just to be sure. Forget about that next home loan(unless you're on the right "list").
Oh, btw, they might lose all your personal dat to some Russian hacker, but I'm sure you wouldn't mind the courtroom paperwork after all the credit cards are cancelled.

Thanks, but no thanks. Your vision is quite terrifying. Cash is King.

The thesis of this post was "consumer choice" in the #1 first world nation on this planet.
5 out of 5 Big Boxes recommend and force "crap" so it must be good for you, right?

You talkin' to me, Willis?

I posted a link above to the unit I'd purchase. Can't get that in the big-box stores. Imported from England, I believe.

Never a problem here. I've been using credit cards on-line since the inception of "on-line purchases" (12+ yrs?).

Never a problem getting a mortgage, either. Have about seven or eight (can't remember how many I have without going on-line to look them up...paperless statements, you know).

Cash is King? How are you going to mail cash? Oh, right. You're going to get in your car, drive to the post office. Wait in line. Purchase a money order (with cash you just drove to the bank to wait in line to withdraw) then mail it and wait 3 ~ 5 days for recipient to receive/deposit. Then another 3 ~ 5 days for shipping...heck. What did I order? It's been so long, every package I receive from the mailman is like Christmas!

True enough Wayne, interstate e-commerce has a prominent place in todays market, but there's no substitute for touching/feeling a product before buying it.
Would you by a car without seeing it first hand? The only ones I would consider gambling on would be the Aptera or Carver which radically break the conventional.

What Danny Ocean is alluding to is quite scary for this paranoid moonbat:
Think of a futuristic consumer society where every purchase is bought through paperless credit (which can be destroyed with the flip of a "centralized switch"), then continuously tracked by RFID. Internet providers could also limit access to consumer product information websites on a discriminatory basis as well.

So... almost overnight the international consumer power of the average joe could be handed over to a few centralized corporations with the ability to completely control their lives. This really digs into the fundamentals of capitalistic democracy, which is based upon the freedom of choice. Duality or greater.
A centralized consumer system is also an overwhelming precident to a centralized governmental system. (Scared yet? Democrats may be at the helm someday.)

Wouldn't this image be more appropriate?

-Supposing Porsche AG decided to start getting their parts made by the Chinese Crap Corp. and enforcing brand copyrights on all aftermarket distributors.
-CCC has a political and/or economical lock on US distributorship as well.
-Wayne now either has to sell CCC parts exclusively, and submit to external price regulating, or re-name his entire site for "backward wing shaped german cars". There aren't enough 3rd party vendors to support his buisness model so Wayne submits to the pressure.
-AOL, Comcast, (newly purchased by CCC) and the other browsers then decide to start limiting access to websites containing any type of aftermarket information using the excuse of copyright infringment, or mabye just no reason at all. Welcome to the tiered internet. Need a hanky yet, commerade?
-CCC works closely with the NSA/TIA/NWO and makes sure only people with the correct political viewpoints will be able to access repair information. Successful third party businesses can now be shut down under the terrorism act. The tiered quality of parts sent is also determined by a variety of social outlook factors.

O.k I'm bored and stretching but most people would get the point by now. Enron is simply not a good business model to base a government on.

You're correct. Even though code prohibits distressed properties, I want a hose reel. Argggh, that's it. I'm asphalting the whole yard.

Wow! Never thought of it that way. I can see your point and will start using cash exclusively/locally.

ROFL...

F shopping in person. I got into a hot car to drive to Sports Authority (aside: ever want to feel lazy? go to sports authority ) to find an EZ up brand tent for VIR in two weeks. They don't have it...nothing EZ up brand. I look at their website...where they have it. I tried to order it...will be here between the 3rd and 11th of September. Thanks for narrowing it down for me bucko...the event's on the 5th.

So I look at Amazon. Some Ace Hardware store in podunk MN has it. So I call their contact to see when it will ship. The kid says " you have to call back on Monday. GRRR. It's just like shopping near me only to now have placed a long distance call. I ordered it anyhow, we'll see what happens.

Did you look here (and why are you driving a stolen car)?:

http://www.google.com/products?q=EZ+Up+tent&hl=en

There are quite a few on E-Bay with a "Buy It Now" price. These sellers most likely have the item in possession and can be compelled to ship promptly:
