The Official Mother-in-Law thread. (What could possibly go wrong?)

I'll start.

My mother in law has three grown children. None of them ever answer the phone when she calls. Our answering machines are all filled with the same message; "How come you never answer the God damned phone!?" It didn't take her too long to figure out that caller ID was thwarting her attempts to communicate. She blocked her caller ID.

Now, none of her three children answer the phone if caller ID is blocked. Man, is she pissed. We still get the messages, though; "How come you never answer the God damned phone!?"

We always call her back (eventually).

I'm so glad my MIL is great.

My MIL's worst infraction is smoking cigarettes in out bathroom. We ALL smell it, and tell her to just get over it and smoke on the balcony, but she won't admit her obvious 'secret' habit. Otherwise she is entirely fine.

Same here. I get along with her better than my own mother.

My MIL smokes too. She is very discreet and wouldn't dare smoke in our bathroom.

seems the childred should call her first and solve the problem

My 79 y/o MIL lives with me. Why? Because her youngest daughter brow beat her mom for money for two decades to support her life style. Now mom has no money. While my wife and I were screaming to the other siblings what was going on, they couldn't be bothered to life a finger. Now that mom is broke the rest of the kids want nothing to do with mom.

MIL and FIL will not answer the phone when her kids or kids in law call. Now we all do the *67 thing which illicits the response " how come all your damn numbers are coming up private".......kind of comical, my wife thinks I am being mean.

This didn't make sense to me until I realized you meant *67 (CID blocking) instead of *69 (call return). Now I get it! Nevermind...

If you only knew...

My mother in law used to be my sworn enemy. She openly told friends and family that she disliked me. She wore black to our wedding.

When she started storming into our house, going off on rants, yelling and screaming... she had to be told she wasn't allowed in our house anymore. She'd show up anyway... my wife would shut off the lights and pretend she wasn't home. We got caller ID at Christmas so we could screen her calls... how awful is that?

All her kids stopped taking her calls, even her brothers did

Then, about 4 months ago it was like someone flipped a switch. After 6-7 years of bitterness, she's had a complete turnaround. The whole time I knew her, we were on eggshells around her and she was aggressive, demanding and offensive. Now she couldn't be happier to see us, wants to know how we're doing, just glad to be around us.

It's almost spooky!
