any ham radio guys here?
I know it's kind of an antiquated (read: dying) hobby, but I was wondering if there are any other hams on here.
I started messing around with buiding a tube amp the other night.....reminded me of being 12 years old and having my dad make me read about Ohm's law. Embraer = KB9IHS (I was advanced class back in '93 when I turned 12, but i don't think that class exists anymore) |
N2LWR, but have been silent since a bit

KF8XS here. Haven't been active much since running into restrictive covenants. I suppose I could put a Texas Bug Catcher on the 911 and run DX on the way to work?

I pulled out an old 2 metre radio the other day and couldn't figure out how to access the local repeaters any more because I couldn't figure out how to set the PLs correctly. Pretty sad on my part.

KB9BZV here :)
I was president of the Purdue Amateur Radio Club when I was a student (over a decade ago now) but am still active with the club, and help out with the local Emergency Nets on 2M and 440. I keep telling myself I need to set my shack back up. I even have a K2 kit sitting in the closet that I need to build, but with the shop and a 2 yo daughter, spare time is pretty tough to come by! 73s, -Nick |
I haven't been very active for a few years. I did a lot of public service events, emergency communications and helped maintain hilltop repeaters over the years. Mainly active on VHF/UHF (2 meters, 220 MHZ, 440 MHZ and 1.2 GHZ). I also enjoyed transmitter hunting.

I received my ARRL manual in the mail today. I have a 900MHz 500mw Tx in my glider that requires one. At the moment, I just need the basic Tech license. We'll see how it goes from there.
Hopefully, I will have my call sign in about a month! |
Wish I had time to fire up my rig here.
Kenwood TS440AT here... |

But have not been active in some years. |
I am but I have never been active.

N2ALL - Extra Class. I haven't been on the air in about 15 years although I still have my ICOM IC-761 transceiver sitting on the corner of my desk. I've often wonder how much Ham Radio may have suffered with the popularity of the InterNet and cell phone technology.

According to the book, it's still healthy. In fact, the Internet is being used to relay short range communications around the world.

I've never applied for a Ham license, but I've been in the radio communication business for over 25 years. I have set-up and sold many repeaters for Hams on 6 meters up to 900 MHz. Mostly Motorola, GE and Kenwood.
