Anyone here wear a suit?

Haven't had to wear a suit in 10 yrs. Dug out my old stuff for an upcoming event. As they are classic cuts, not worried about looking out-dated, however, my G/F pointed out that no-one wears cuffed pants with their suits anymore.

You rarely see someone in a suit here (too hot, too many slobs) so I don't have any "local knowledge".

So...cuffs or no cuffs on the pants?

Thanks in advance.

I wear a suit between 3-5 days a week.

All have cuffs.

And...I like my suit coat pocket flaps tucked into the jacket.

I just bought a new suit 3 weeks ago. The pants had cuffs. The salesperson who is much more stylish than I am gave me the advice on cuffs.

Trousers with front pleats-no cuffs. Plain trousers cuffs balance the look.

Don't know if this is true, but I'm taking that to the bank

OK.

Cuffs - 2
No Cuffs - 0

Can we get a quorum?

I have some with cuffs, some without. Never gave it much thought. Tucking pocket flaps into the pockets? I gotta ask...why???

I just left the Navy after 25 years...25 years of never thinking about what to wear (and certainly no thought to style) and suddenly I needed to ramp up on suits.

I talked to a lot of my buddies who have done well in business. Their advice was to take the intent of the whole suit (color, cut, pants and shoes) into consideration: there is no hard and fast rules on cuffs.

A conservatively cut, dark suit with pleated pants can work well with cuffs.

What I did was buy two pairs of pants for every suit coat, I cuffed one and left the other straight, regardless of the pleat.

I prefer the look.

I never have figured out why suit coats have all those buttons down the sleeves at the cuffs?!?
Goofy looking.

If you work is advertising, fashion, media or whatever—no cuffs.

Law, business and all conservative stuff etc. cuffs are normal and widespread—though you could also get away without them.

Called "surgeon cuffs" or "working cuffs".

From the web:

Q: I recently purchased two Donna Karan signature-edition suits. The suits are great, but a friend in the fashion industry tells me a truly great suit has functional buttons on the sleeves. Is this true?

A: Functional sleeve buttons usually indicate a bespoke suit. Men who spend a lot on their suits like to show it off by leaving a sleeve button or two unbuttoned. Of course, you could take your Donna Karan suits to the tailor at your dry cleaner’s, have the buttonholes opened up for a few dollars per hole and then go back to your friend and tell him you’re now wearing a truly great suit.

Well...this is just a one-time event. Suits go back in the closet for another 10 yrs. afterward.

I think cuffs contribute to a better fitting, more tailored looking pair of pants.
The pants that bunch up over the shoes and just miss dragging the ground, do nothing for me. ( sloppy looking )

I still wear a suit...to weddings and funerals. We just went full-out casual (shorts and t-shirts) at work. I still wear khakis and a polo shirt.

I bought a suit this year with cuffs...

Suit in question is a midnight blue, single-breasted Armani. Pants are already cuffed.

So....sounds like the cuffs stay.

Thanks all!

Agreed. But, if they fit properly they only bunch up a little and dont drag. More modern look.

Yeah but now your pocket won't lay flat with the flaps tucked in and everyone is saying; "Hey! Look at that guy with his pocket flaps tucked in!"

It's actually the opposite. Plain front slacks should have no cuffs. Pleated slacks typically have cuffs. These are, however, general rules that only the most strict of fashion police might try to "enforce".

Currently, flat front/no cuffs tend to be found on suits that might be considered more "modern" or contemporary, a more "hip" look. A "classic" looking suit would generally have pleats/cuffs, offering a much more conservative look.
