First Cadillac CTS-V performance test published

The CTS-V ran the quarter-mile in a scant 12.5 seconds, besting the 12.7 it takes for either the BMW M5 or the Mercedes E63 AMG. Getting back to a standstill was another hit to the Bimmer and the Benz, with the Caddy stopping from 60-0 mph in 109 feet – five feet less than it takes the M5 and six shorter than the AMG. And if you're thinking that brakes and power are easy to upgrade and that the Cadillac couldn't possibly best the Germans on the handling course, think again: the CTS-V ran the slalom at 71.1 mph, while the M5 and E63 ran it in 68.5 and 65 mph respectively.

Awesome performance, everything I've read says the CTS-V is an astounding car. Even Jeremy Clarkson thought it handled great.

12.5 seconds is about as long as I could look at that dash though

Why can't they put the crackpipe down when they are doing the interior? Really cheapens an otherwise great car, IMO. Flash instead of class.

The Mercedes E63 (stock) is faster than the CTS-V. The Mercedes E55 AMG is faster than both.

Oh Haha 08-26-2008 04:37 PM

I would buy one but they don't come in a wagon........ yet.y

Oh wait, that's right, they are only producing the CTS Sportwagon for Europe.

What a bunch of clowns!!!!!!!

The reason we bought the BMW is 1. it's NOT a minivan., B. it's enough room for what we need.

If they decide to make the CTS wagon in a "V" version and offer it in the states, I would be willing to bet they would steal a healthy chunk of that market from BMW, VW and Mercedes.

It's the perfect time with gas prices what they are.

Moses, I don't see that in the table. Even if so, I would trust Edmonds (professional test equipment, journalistic integrity) more than some website. Further, I can't see how the E55 AMG (469 HP) could be faster than the E63 AMG (507 HP and larger displacement). The CTS-V is a pretty sweet car, but I'd still take the AMG.:)

Wayne, I don't think anyone buying a 500 HP sedan is concerned about MPG. Otherwise, a CTS-V wagon would be sweet. As would the E63 AMG and M5 wagon, that they don't bring to America.

Now GM just needs to make a 12 second Buick Le Sabre. That'd be sweet.

Actually I'll retract my statement. It looks Edmunds matched conditions for the tests. Dragtimes.com are a collection of real certified drag times, but the best times are posted under ideal conditions ; low pressure rear tires, drag radials, etc.
By the way, the E55 is faster 0-60 than the E63. The E55 is supercharged and delivers more torque earlier in the launch. I've driven both. The E55's acceleration is definitely more violent.

i see those at the track occasionally. this one guy (he wrecked it, and bought a carrera?) was fast as anything with it. it would roar past like it was possessed the very second i stuck a feeble finger out to point him by.

i dont think i have ever seen a benz. i guess it is a different crowd? the LV luggage would just look frightful laid out on the tarmac.

...yet after averaging 12mpg, lots of e60 M5 owners are getting rid of their rides.

If the claims of a 7:59 at the 'ring are valid, that puts it above the MK1 GT3, Audi R8, E92 M3, etc. The M5 and E63 are in the dust.

I think thats pretty impressive for a $60k 4200lb American luxury sedan.

Here's a great Top Gear bit on the Cadillac CTS-V. Clarkson LOVED the power and handling, but HATED the interior and the annoying "bongs" that tells you you have turned on the ignition, taken off your seatbelt, opened the door, etc...

I can't watch here at work, that's the old CTS-V, right? I've never seen a Top Gear piece on the new CTS-V, and it's only now hitting the streets.

Pretty sure it's the new one. Edit. SORRY! It's the old one.

you can make a fat and ugly pig go fast on farts if you add enough beans to its diet

but at the end of the road it'll still be a fat ugly pig that blows

Sitting by the mirror?

onewhippedpuppy 08-27-2008 11:13 AM

Which car do you speak of Stijn, the BMW?;) Though I'm not sure either would qualify as pretty, I give the edge to the Caddy in that arena. The M5 is a lot of things, but particularly good looking really isn't one of them. Though I'd love to have one, I still feel that the E39 M5 was a better looking car. Honestly, I kind of like the new CTS.

pookie 08-27-2008 11:23 AM

That must have been what I saw the other day pulling out of a gas station, big brakes, wide wheels, lower stance, and a nice sounding exhaust. It had me looking at Caddy's the other day.

But what's in the pigs diet that makes it outbrake and outhandle the rest of your farm?

I give the Merc the edge when it comes to being pretty. Also much more stealth. The Caddy is the most aggressive of the bunch, which the M5 is aggressive but also a bit awkward. My opinion of course.

There is a video (on YouTube?) from GM that shows the 'ring run from an in-car camera. Sorry don't have a link, but I think it can I accessed it from a Cadillac Website.

It is pretty cool. As I recall the driver was John Heinricy, a real hot-shoe with quite a few SCCA national championships & many other racing wins.

Check it out.
