I've Often Thought of Getting Into Politics...
There's this scene in the movie "54" (about Studio 54) where Mike Myer's character, Steve Rubell, who owns the club, has decided to promote Ryan Phillipe's character, a low-level employee. Ryan Phillipe's character knows that he has to let the club owner felate him to move up. Well, he gets to that moment, and the club owner tells him that it is the other way around. What does Ryan Phillipe's character do? He gets down on his knees.
There comes a moment in every politician's career where they have to give up what they believe in to get elected. Sell your soul for a nice donation or endorsement. I picture it being something like the scene I described above--leaving a bad taste in your mouth. I guess I realize that my beliefs are more important than doing the things I'd have to do to be a successful politician.
