I was pretty involved in evacuating over 500 people from NOLA in the days before Katrina. We had two movies prepping to shoot there, The Guardian and Deja Vu. I can tell you that the NOLA Police had NO contingency plans. They didn't have so much as a pallet of bottled water for emergencies. Tell me how that was Bush's fault?
In addition to people, we had hundreds of vehicles: picture cars, camera, grip, prop, costume trucks, stake beds, you name it. We lost one SUV and one enclosed trailer in the same garage because when the power went out the manual emergency release didn't work. The Governor of LA, the Mayor of NO, and all their staffs were grossly incompetent. Brownie wasn't much help either, but he did one thing people forget. He started getting supplies and relief in 3 days, which is exactly when FEMA says will usually be the earliest you'll start to see relief. |

Classy dude. |
Send Spratt the congressman a note telling him what you think of him. Here's the link. Just pick a zip code from his office list, click on the email link at the top of the page, put the zip code in and blast away. You don't even need to put a real name and address.

The RNC is punting on some of their convention activities for tomorrow because of the hurricane. Probably not a terrible idea. The dems would otherwise find some way to chastise them.
Both conventions are/were rubber stamps anyway. I don't think there has been a real floor vote at either convention in many decades. |
I heard the RNC might do a quickie nomination and then turn it into a fund raiser if Gustav is bad.
Not a bad idea. |
The RNC turn it into a fund raiser? You mean those mean, heartless republicans who grind minorities under their jack boots? Those republicans?
|
I don't know about mean and heartless
I thought they did it just for fun :) I think the DNC would have thought of the same. It is a good idea. |
yeah...Michael Moore is a natural disaster...he could emcee the dem's show.
|
I live in SC, but Spratt's not the Congressman from my district. If this gets out I suspect he is on his last term.
|
I think it's in poor taste to joke about the hurricane, but I have a hard time believing that if it struck last week and mucked-up the DNC that the Repubs would not be joking about it. "God doesn't like Democrats", "it's Bush's fault", etc...

I'll let you know how the Doves do...we are all shooting .410's so I think they'll be ok. |
Lol!

No doubt that video show one or two people making a joke in poor taste, but I'm in Mpls. right now and haven't heard anyone make that (too easy) joke. And you cannot swing a dead cat here w/o hitting an Obama lawn sign. I'll be in St. Paul in a couple hours for a concert on Harriet Island in the Mississippi river in DT St. Paul, right across from the Excel Center. Today was supposed to be the big opening day w/ Bush and Cheney making appearances + the huge protest march. The GOP are actually really grateful for anything preventing Bush and Cheney from making the convention, that's the last thing they want voters thinking about right now.
