We holed up in a local drinking establishment with food, some reserve power, and lots to drink. 5 hearty souls withstood a little rain and wind gusting to 60 mph or so as we monitored Gustav, drank, ate & slept our way through 30 or so hours of moderately bad weather. Those that evacuated faced tortuous 15hr drives & boring motel stays. I was 2 blocks from home, among friends, in a stout little building, well supplied and safe. We had power for TV, computers, phone chargers and a radio. The web stayed up.

Almost exactly as I had predicted, the storm began to whip at 9:15am (my prediction was 10 to 2). Some doubted my weather prognostication, as tv was saying 11 hours of wind with heavy rain. We got gusts to 60 or so and by 2, Gustav, and his 70's porn mustache, was looking for new folks to bother. The worst had passed. We hung out till about 5 & headed home.

Glad ya'll are ok. Have you heard from Roux?

onewhippedpuppy 09-02-2008 04:19 AM

So your only damage from Gustav was a hangover?:D

Mule 09-02-2008 05:14 AM

That would be correct.:D

No problems here except for some limbs down and a little bit of flooding. We lost power 3 times, but never over 45 minutes. 1 abandoned brick building collapsed downtown, but that's about all I guess Johnco fared the worst of all of us, as Morgan City does not have any power or running water right now. Guess we'll wait for him to check in (maybe in the next day or so). The center of the storm is around Shreveport today and scheduled to hang around the NW corner of the state for a few days. Hope they don't get flooded out like the 20" back in May.

We were very lucky in Metairie. It seemed that we were between the feeder bands as the circulated around. You could look to either side of us on the radar and see storms. The streets were almost dry by yesterday afternoon. By dark, the wind was basically over.

Glad you checked in and all is well. Good for you.

yes the power is out here in MC. many poles down across the highway and some broken in half. water and phone still on but not my cell. someone told me a tower went down. part of my roof peeled back so ceiling is falling in my bedroom and everything on one side wet. same deal on my carport, except some plywood seems to have gone awol. no power, no stores open, no gas available. just another glorious day in south Louisiana

Was Zoanas picking up the slack?:D In times like these folks have to pitch in, Zoanas has shown himself to be completely capable of carrying the load on that important mission.SmileWavy
